I hate shaving. I want something that makes it as quick, easy and painless as possible and am willing to pay to achieve that. Is the Braun Series 7 razor my best best? Amazon has them for like $220 or so with a coupon that gives you $50 off a future Amazon purchase. Good deal?

I hate it too.

I'd be interested in opinions here, also.

I used to always use a Braun but the foils need replacing quite often to get a good close shave and they are expensive.

I started using the Gillette Fusion after I got one free in the mail.
They have 5 blades plus a trimmer side for side burns, mustaches.

The razor blades are expensive as hell but they last four times longer, use the Edge gel type shaving cream.

I get a really nice close shave with these.

I get a really nice close shave with these.Totally agree, and I was skeptical at first. Anyone who hasn't tried one is really missing out. And yup, the blades last at least 4 times longer, costing a good bit less than all other comers in the long run.

Shaving with a Braun 7526 now as I surf, have gone through quite a few electrics, have had this guy for two or three years, replaced the foil once. I love it and I have a sensitive face, specifically in the neck area.

I use Gillette Razors as well. I think its the Mach 3. I havent "upgraded" yet to the Fusion. Was hoping to get a free one somehow in the mail. As far as electrics go, Ive never been able to get my neck properly. I have a heavy stubble and after a couple of days of growth an electric just doesnt cut it. I'll be left with some nice red marks and a warm feeling on my skin for a day or so. I must admit though that the new Norelco Arcitec looks very interesting. With the pivoting head it seems like it would clean up the neck nicely..Very pricey though for a razor but you get what you pay for.

Fusion here. I thought it was BS, but after I tried a freebie I was hooked. The blades last 4 ever.

Yes. Here is the secret. If you can, get a mirror in your shower and use the Panasonic at the end of the shower after your beard & skin is all warmed up.

Better yet, get a regular blade (I use Sensors) for a quick "first pass" shave to get rid of the coarse stuff, then follow with a wet shave with the electric. You will never have a closer shave.

I've gone to "retro" double edge safety razors and shaving soap with badger hair brush. Will NEVER go back to modern razors. They suck.
Here's where I bought my Merkur gear:

Yep. Much better shave and cheaper in the long run. All these modern razors are gimmicks. One double edge safety razor with a feather blade is better than two, three or four blade modern razors.

+100 i just picked one of these up, and its the best electric shaver iv'e ever tried by far. I was shaving with the Fusion razors before this one
and i'm blown away at how close this razor shaves.

What most guys don't realise is that "safety razors" were an invention by Gilette to increase sales. Most guys never cut themselves any more with a cutthroat than they did with a safety razor. But you need to buy new blades for a safety razor so that keeps the blade manufacturers happy. If everyone still used the cutthroat then they wouldn't be selling many razors!

I guess that's where electrics came in. I use a Braun and it's ok - my old phillips used to tug the whiskers out rather than try cutting 'em! I hate shaving also. I shave once a week on average so have to use the trimmer first then the regular shaver. PITA!

I use the Gillette Mach 3 and tried the Fusion.
I still prefer the Mach 3.

I can't grasp the logic of this. As older men, experienced with using a straight razor (before their hands started to shake with age) died off, young men began learning to use one and frequently cut themselves. It's a constant cycle of new users and experienced users. "Never cut themselves anymore" makes no sense.

The safety razor was a brilliant invention that has prevented innumerable cuts and gashes over the years. Replacement blades were cheap - probably cheaper than having one's straight razor professionally sharpened (sharpening a razor is an art that very few were skillful at, nor had the time to perform). I'm sure you're aware that the straight razors used now at modern barber shops are disposable, right?

I was gonna try a straight razor a couple of years ago, but couldn't find one. The last time I was at a mall in SD, I noticed a brand new shaving store called "The Art of Shaving"--looks like they might be trying to start a fad--the straight razors they had were pricey--close to $100, with some over $200--same razor, just fancier handles. She indicated that straight razors were popular with the military crowd, as they can be cost saving in the long run--but some skill in using them is required.

Modern razors with 4+ blades really cause havoc and irritation around my neck. I finally had enough and switched over to a Merkur safety razor with Feather blades. I've been using this setup for 2+ years now and can not think of ever going back to a Gilette Fusion (or similar multiblade razor).
