I was on a small, personal, mature guitar forum years ago before I fell off the face of the earth. Years later I started to look for a new forum when I returned to active playing and found guitar.com to be confusing and then I was stuck on UG.com until I found this place.

I could rant forever with the confrontations and some of the remarks on there, is anyone else blown away by the characters on that site? I know there are a lot of people just starting out on there and that there are going to be some dumb questions, and everyone goes through that. But I am only 22 years old and don't think I ever acted like the people on that site. And I find myself feeling much more at home on this site, even though I am years behind on experience, quality of gear and everything else. I'm just glad I found a site where I can ask a technical question and get useful, accurate info

For the most part, you'll be happy here :D Watch the lunar cycles, though. When there's a full moon, folks can get testy around here for some reason.

Seriously, I like this place. I find it pretty easy to avoid unnecessary confrontation, and life on TGP has been good.

Once I stepped across a line, and one of the regulars here PM'd me and sort of scolded me. Hasn't happened since. I don't even recall what I said, and I only have a fair idea who the regular was.

Well at least the confrontations here aren't with some prepubescent 12 year old. Some 16 year old mod banned me on there for a double post, they have some crazy rules over there and the young'ns like the power they have with banning.

Funny, over there people think the Peavey VyPur is the best amp ever or the Tube King or whatever. To me they are some pretty terrible sounding tube amps. But I guess they have tubes and they are cheap so they are good. And yet they bash Marshall MGs, and I couldn't really complain about mine for a practice amp.

Well, you'll find some strong opinions here on gear. I never go to the Pedals area LOL Sometime I might venture into the amp section.

As for double posts, that happens to me every so often when the forum software is acting up. I just delete the second post, no harm done. I recall days when you'd see triple posts!

Welcome. You will soon be very addicted, TGP will take over your life, affect your personal and professional relationships and will cause you to spend more on gear than you ever imagined. Have fun!

So someone on there wanted a tube amp that can be enjoyed at lower levels and I said how disapointed in the Peavey Windsor Studio for no glassy tube tones at low volumes and some kid said "Why don't you just turn it up then?"

Ugh. That defeats the purpose. The kid practices with a half stack btw

I am a member at UG (moody07747) and agree with some of the type of posts that go on there. I am a huge poster at the R&R forums over there and it just seems like nobody every takes the time to read the pinned posts. I find myself answering the same questions almost every day.
I got to a point where I made three videos for them. I had a mod put them in a pinned post and yet I STILL have to tell people to look over the top of the board...

R&R is the only real place on that site which I trust and feel at home. For higher end questions I post at Studio-Central.com.
I think the reason most people are so strange at UG is because most of the members are quite young. Look up an older age poll in The Pit and you'll see for yourself.

When I give advice (and this is for any site) I give my best advice and tend not to snap any anyone. We all have to start somewhere.

I got a 30 day ban for simply answering a question in a thread.

the thread was to post your modified guitars and the rules stated dont post without an image.
Some member posts his image and it's huge.
He also asks how to resize and so I post letting him know how to resize the image.

Before I knew it, I was banned........

When I was banned, I made a sarcastic plea and they realized how silly they were.

Some posts I just can't help but to cover in sarcasm, and every time I get "this is spam, reported"

Welcome to a better place. The downside is it will end up costing you thousands in G.A.S. and there is no help here for that.

yes this place will give you GAS but the pub section has a lot of great people in it and from a personal standpoint, some of these folks helped me deal with some very rough times in my life. For thar i am forver grateful to the mods. When i was down and out, ig ot support and advice from people who went thru the same thing. Im an alcoholic with 8 months of sobriety and knowing that a lo9t guys were pulling for me made a big difference. that being said, i like ug for the power tab.

I've had GAS for years, luckly I am a poor college student and don't have the money to spend so I'll be ok.

Once I get a job over the winter I can get a few pedals and finish modding my Strat and Washburn and my G&L SB-2... then I can start GASing a new guitar again
