I grind my own beans and use a French press right now. But I want a good coffee maker. Only a 4 cupper.

get the krups aroma, it holds the water in the grinds for 2 minutes before releasing it into the carafe..i got mine on overstock.dom and it's well worth the money even if you have to pay full price...

$0.36 a cup where I buy them. On balance, that's cheaper than many other coffee makers with no waste. Quick, easy. I use a french press occassionally, but I like the Keurig for most things.

Do not buy one made by G.E. My krupps died and the wife came home with a G.E. coffee maker. I unboxed it and set it up only to have it dump water out of it's leaky water lines on my counter. :messedup

If you only brew a few cups, get a nespresso system. Best coffee, low maintenance.

+1. Definitely not the most cost effective, but I've rarely had a better cup of coffee.

the best one I've seen for simple, pure coffee is the Krups 4-cupper or 10-cupper, no timer, no fancy, just good coffee ... less than $40 IIRC.

My wife and I grind and use a French Press during the week, but on weekends we brew in a pot. I would love to get a better brewer. What model of the Krups Aroma do you recommend? I checked ebay and there are several different 10 cup Aroma's.

I bought a Technivorm Moccamaster after research. It brews at a higher temperature.

They sold off that business line to (IIRC) Philips some time ago (although Philips continues to brand them with the GE name, which they are licensed to do).

I've had a Krups 10-cupper for maybe five or six years, great maker. It gets the water good and hot. I was turned on to french presses and abandoned the maker for a year or so. I then got one of those gold plated permanent filters and have gone back to the maker. I didn't like how paper filters alter the flavor of coffee and the gold filter has removed that.

For some reason ever since I've started using a French Press I can't do back to a drip machine.

Bunn Capital made right here in Springfield, Illinois. In more homes and commercial operations than all the rest combined.

+1 on the Bunn.

We switched to a Bunn about 4 years ago, and I'd never go back to using anything else.

I use a Krups Home Espresso maker, but with French Roast. One cup at a time, really smooth and stout alternative to conventional espresso. It's a sort of French Press I guess (?)--the water is pressed through the grounds at high pressure during brewing. Does that make it an FP?

Anyhoo, it taste good. :)

Been using BUNN coffeemakers for the last 10yrs or so. Wouldn't even think about buying any other. The 10 cups in 3 minutes appeals to my sensibilities.

Ive had great luck with the bunn as well ... I cleaned mine out the other day and based on my findings i'd recommend cleaning/flushing it out fairly often.. :barf

My brother gave me one last Christmas. It is second only to my old and trusted French Press.

Only makes 1 cup at a time though and while you can buy a filter those K-cups are a bit pricey.

I don't remember the model but we have a simple one with no timer, clock, etc., just a carafe w/ a gold cone filter.

we have a Bunn we used to use but the energy/electricity waste from having the water kept heated all the time led me to put it away.

No, Ray, it's not a press. A press pot (french press) is not a powered device. It is a vessel (usually glass or SS) that has a fine-mesh screen on a plunger to which you ad ground coffee and hot (not boiling) water, and then, after a few minutes, you press the plunger down, and it takes the grounds to the bottom, and then you pour and enjoy. How's that for a run-on sentence!

Peace.

Just picked up a Krups KM1000. makes better coffee than my old crap thing. Was going to pick up a Krups unit that had a steamer and Expresso unit together with the regular coffee maker, but the slide out filter container seemed to be flimsy.
Someday i'll have a fancy expresso machine, and do nothing but drink quads and poop all day.

Jon, do you have an electric guitar and amp?

yeah, but unlike the Bunn coffee maker, they don't sit around "on" sucking energy 24/7 ... the Bunn has a tank warmer so it's constantly cycling to keep water hot.

IF there is some constructive point to your question, it eludes me.:messedup

Espresso drinker here, so not sure this applies but for convenience and excellent coffee I love my Nespresso maker.

You have to use their coffee because it comes in capsules. But it tastes very good. The machines are Kinda pricey, and it turns out to be about 50 cents a shot. I have the lowest price model at $249 for the machine. BUT if you price and try other espresso makers this is the only one I found that holds up to the high end ($800) home machines. Just drop the capsule in a press a button. I am a total coffee snob and to me this is very good.

Their marketing it high end, one shop on Park ave here in NY and the other in Bloomingdales. Great mail order service. Anyway, if you want to go nuts.

Can't live without mine.

Australian company, there are better brands, but I get mine "free" from credit card reward points

I have visited a quite few different parts of the world, and every one makes coffee differently. I don't know how popular espresso and cappuccino machines are in the USA, but they are standard in cafés and many homes in Europe and here in Oz. I have to say, the coffee I had in my year in the US was not my favourite - no offense - the percolator or drip method does not extract the same richness as an espresso machine, burns and loses freshness quickly. OTOH you do only get one or two cups at a time though with an espresso machine, but the whole process of making it is very satisfying (although this clip is overkill with the cleaning, it usually only takes a couple of minutes)

Also love Turkish coffee, and other 'sweet mud' styles like in Bali.
