Just found my old cassette copy of the DLR Band's Sonrisa Salvaje, which is the Spanish-language version of Eat 'Em and Smile - mas rock! I actually liked the album better in Spanish, for some perverse reason, despite not understanding a word. Oh, wait...
Any other fans of this record? Cheers,
Rob

That version of Yankee Rose is high comedy I tell ya! I know it's not supposed to be, but I'd play that on the way to gigs with the band & have them rolling on the floorboards the entire time.

Yeah, not exactly the high point. My fave is "Noche de Ronda en la Ciudad."

I have always loved those 2 discs he did with Vai, Sheehan & Bissonette

Totally agree. I just had a listen all the way through for the first time in years, and, language questions aside, this record rocks. That band was tighter than a fish's backside.
Meanwhile, David Lee Roth really does turn in a very convincing performance as a hispanic glam-shred crooner, whatever that is.
Cheers,
Rob

I loved Eat 'Em and Smile. Vai's solo on "Big Trouble" is great. It's great in Spanish, too. I always understood Van Halen and Roth combined great great hard rock with vaudeville humour. When Van Hagar started, the humour was lost and Van Halen actually thought they were a SERIOUS band. Sammy and his Cabo Wabo schtick is miles above Van Hagar

I'm glad this was reissued. I've been searching high and low for a decade for this album!
By the way, anyone notice that "Big Trouble" is extended? On the original Eat 'Em And Smile it fades out, but on Sonrisa Salvaje, it goes all the way to the cold ending. I wonder why they faded it out originally - can't be for lack of space, the album's only a little more than 1/2 hour long anyway.

When I saw the Hold Steady earlier this month, they came onstage to the Spanish version of "Yankee Rose." It totally ruled.

Great pathos in this one:
