Just threw down for a Dual 2 Gig G5 on Friday. Got a extra GIG of RAM to get started. I've sold my Dual 1 Gig G4 and 2408 MK II to a buddy and I'm moving up to the MOTU 2408 Mark III. Running DP 4.12 with NI Komplete and a shitload of VST instruments(my fave being REFX Beast, Vanguard, Juno as well as the PSP, Pluggo stuff) Anyone else running a similar rig? Will I notice a huge difference between my new rig and my old Dual 1 Gig G4 with 1.5 Gig of RAM?

Yeah.

I wish.

:D

I'm still using a G4/400 - but I did recently drop in another 512MB of RAM to up my total to 1GB. I noticed a bit of improved performance, but not a 50% improvement.

Ahhh... I'd love to nab one. Budget requires me to wait till I need it, tho...

A good buddy of mine has one. Not completely bug-free, but I suspect it has more to do with his setup than anything inherently buggy in the machine.

Just boils down to the same shit - you make music the same way, just a little less waiting time.

Ah yes but does 2gig sound better than 1gig????

I wonder if they will ever invent a tube add on to make your memory sound more warm???:D

I just closed a deal with MI for their new video editing class and they just plopped down the $$$ for the first HDTV capable editing system, with 8 student systems to follow based on the dual 2.5ghz towers..

What you will notice is that the drive access time is quite a bit faster since they employ the high speed serial ATA drive interface, and the usual speed bump from the processor upgrade. Past that, the only concern is if the software you're using has been properly "G5" tuned for the dual processor setup. Usually this is as simple as a plug in upgrade automatically loaded when the software starts up.

In other words, you might need some "Depends" before the initial speed bump hits your nervous system and you have that "Whoa!" reaction... :D

You're welcome, Matte. Next time, just click the email if you have one of these Macgeek questions. :)

The new MOTU PCI-X card has some great features, onboard DSP for very low latency, multi-monitor mixes, great if you're recording a whole band.
