View Full Version : NFL - Week 13

Snoozers today. Unless Seattle or Detroit does something totally unexpected....

Would love to watch Philly/Cards, but NOOOOOO.

Saints have to keep winning to even have a faint hope of sniffing playoffs. It's crazy that GB at 5-6 is in better shape than we are at 6-5. Oh well, that's the way the ball bounces.

Hopefully the MNF-level performance shows up in Tampa, and not the ones we watched in Carolina or Atlanta.

Happy Turkey Day!! :)

Will be interesting to see what kind of day Michael Turner has against his old team when the Falcons play the Chargers on Sunday.

I bet he out-rushes LT 2:1.

And here's to hoping Cassel can shred another good defense this week.

Appreciate the correction.

NE v. Steelers is easily the game of the week. Strap it up and get it on. I'm going to need a tranquilizer during this game.

Belischmuck will be emptying the playbook on the Steelers this coming Sunday. His QB has found his rhythm and it's Billy's Big Chance to shame the #1 across-the-board Defense of the Goodell's nemesis...the Big Bad Steelers.

This will be Billy's message game. I am hoping for a victory but I'm not optimistic.

I just want LeBeau to have the D ready and Big Ben to play like he did against Cinci. This gives us a chance.

We got our hands full. Cassel can scramble too but it seems he's doing the tough guy thing last couple weeks....keep on going head first and you're leaving via ambulance.

We need the D-line to keep the heads and hands up, like Aaron always does, and collapse the pocket more without blitzing. LeBeau has to come up with some more wizardry to get to the QB. There has been an inopportune falloff in the sacks....not to mention a huge increase in uncalled holding penalties in favor of the opposition.

The Steelers get their best playmaking CB (Bryant McFadden) back just in time for this game and that's fine by me.

Also, I hope/expect to see more of Timmons this game. Foote is not quick enough to cover Faulk coming out of the backfield. Timmons is like a 240lb Polamalu at LBer. He moves with incredible quickness and agility for a LBer.

Detroit should be one the biggest best football teams in the nation..
Large fanbase, good stadium, lots of fan interest. big corporate backing..FORD...and yet...

No. They are one of the least talked about teams in the sport.

What is wrong with that franchise? NO disrespect to the players at all. They must feel the same way.

I love football but I remember being forced to watch this same tired game every year at Thanksgiving...Detroit vs Cowboys....

What a bummer....Awe man. Not again.

I think the Cowboys are giving up there thanksgiving spot to other teams to have a shot at. Lets hope Detroit gets new owners...or follows suit.

Am I alone in saying that America is tired of the Lions on Thanksgiving..? It's a tradition worth updating.

Maybe have last years superbowl teams go at it or last years top 4 teams go at it again...OR divison rivals go at it.

(I'll be over here ducking the shrapnel...)

You memory needs jogging.....

Detroit and Dallas have traditionally hosted Thanksgiving games...not played each other. Just like today. Detroit is hosting Tennessee and Dallas is hosting Seattle.

Neither is giving up their game, either. It is a tremendous advantage, being home for the short week then having 10 days until the next game this late in the season. The league may eventually get around to changing things up, but they have held fast with this tradition for decades. And if they DO change, it won't be from the goodness of the teams. It will be because the league requires it.

Pfffft.

Tampa tried to give us this game about 3 times, and we couldn't take it. A must win.

Saints deserve to watch playoffs on TV. :(

Drew is a phenom player [and I wouldn't have any other QB], but he played very poorly today. Mental mistakes, don't blame weather....

Ravens looked very solid w/ a stellar game from Clayton. The one handed grab was incredible.

Wish the Browns could have pulled the upset. No offensive TD's for Indy... A Cleveland win would have been warmly received here.

Go Pats! Need the Steeler loss.

Steelers actually looked pretty good today! Nice D!!! and the Oline did some solid blocking.

I was right about Timmons. The Steelers finally decided to put Timmons on Faulk out of the backfield and he picked Cassel nicely.

Great game by the Steelers! After we spotted the Pats our usual free points (Ben's very early INT resulting in TD), the Patriots managed 3 points. 3.

This Steelers D is better than the 2005 team that won the SB. Nice to see the O get some things done today as well. A very decisive win, and the Steelers are shaping up to peak at the right time of year. I like our chances of getting to the SB.

You got that right, Brian.

Eli is definitely giving big brother a run for his $$$.
What an arm! That pass to Toomer was about as picture perfect as it gets.
With that passing game, and their already world beating running offense...WHO can stop them?
And I wont even get into that 'D'...coached so magnificently.
I say, nobody beats them...at this point.

Plaxico who? :)

And on to my "WildCard" Colts...whew!
That was too close...we've gotten into the habit of pulling games out at the last minute. Thanks to the awesome tandem of Freeney/Matthis with the forced fumble/TD in the 4th quarter...we got the edge we needed to close it down in Cleveland. I dont think this strategy is gonna work in the playoffs...although, we have beaten New England, San Diego, and Pittsburgh this way. It worked then, so maybe it will work again in the post season.
Just to remind everyone, we DID put a big time shellacking on B'more (31-3), so that is some very good karma. Also, currently winning with no Bob Sanders/Jeff Saturday in the lineup bodes well for us when they return.

GO COLTS!!!

I don't watch football anymore.
I watch a bunch of overpriced crybabies that couldn't score on a pop warner team give it away to the second worst team in the league.

Not even Kenny Stabler in his prime could've saved Oakland this year.
No Wideouts
no O Line
NO D Line
1 great corner, 1 decent corner, 1 good strong safety
and 2 good linebackers couldn't stop Gonzales.

Fu**ing Rob Ryan.

I know, I know...
BUT - there's gotta be something in the water supply in Houston that makes pro football players "CHOKE"... I mean, just look at the Titans... as the "Oilers" they produced the biggest blow-job in the history of pro-sports with their loss to the Bills - the Oilers were consistent only in their "hapless-ness"... then they move to Nashville and are in the Super Bowl within TWO YEARS, and even now whipping up on everybody's ass... I'm telling you, it's gotta be something in the Houston water...

Oh I get it...bay area water...?

Yes... of course - I've narrowed it down to that one possibility... It simply can't be anything else... How else can it be rationally explained when college "star athletes" turn professional and simply forget how to play the game? It's gotta be a deliterious side effect of water flouridation (or something similar) that only affects the motor and mental skills of pro-football players... it is reversible, though... 'cause when they relocate to another city, their skills ALWAYS seem to return!!!

Man, what a sloppy game! It seemed neither one of those teams deserved to win. I'll tell you what, Russell is a MAN. Dude is what, 6'6" 270? Running thru the secondary with guys just banging off him. The hold out hurt him last year, so he definitely looks like a rookie this year.

All the coaching drama can't help either. I do think he is a keeper.

Been a while since I have been to houston, back when the oilers where there the city always had a pesticide smell to it from the oil refineries and such, really hard to play football with that foul air, not sure if the water is as bad.

Wanna hear an interesting and baffling stat?

The Saints are 0-17 when trailing going into the 4th quarter under Sean Payton.

With Brees and this offense [usually ranked #1 or near it] how do you manage to pull that off.

mge80
12-01-2008, 06:23 PM
I'd be interested to know by how much they were trailing going into the 4th quarter of those games. If it's 14 or more every time, then that would probably go a long way towards explaining it.

But still, odds are that they would pull at least one out. Wouldn't you think?

Craig Walker

It was 10 pts down yesterday...they tied it up, then lost it late.

Payton is getting ripped around here for being so "pass happy". He refuses to commit to the running game. Fans have been complaining about it since he tried to win the NFC Championship vs the Bears via passing the ball [in snow/slop].

Same thing again yesterday. Thomas has performed well enough to be a 'good' back, but we have not had a 100 yds rusher since he did it vs Bears last year...

I believe we have a .500 coach {signed to a long term deal this yr}

That's about it for 'hate'. the 49ers used to be up there, as they got rammed down my throat for years.

I of course love the fact that they wouldn't have had their little 'dynasty' if it weren't for Al Davis brokering the deal to buy the 49ers for the DiBartolo's, and discovering Bill Walsh and giving him his first NFL job.

You don't hate the Chiefs? That's one of the great rivalries in football. I know both teams are down right now, but those games in the 80's and 90's were fantastic. Lots of blood and bruises.

big mike
12-02-2008, 11:20 AM
I always had trouble hating the chiefs. It was before I was old enough to realize you're supposed to hate the teams in your teams' division. LOL.

I dug Neal Smith and Derrick Thomas..and I was Pissed at Al Davis for the way he treated Marcus, and I liked MOntana even though I hated (then) the Whiners. So I pulled for them, (all but twice a year). So I did like the chiefs. My like has considerably cooled, but I don't HATE them.

Actually the only time I routed against the raiders my whole life, the first Raider/Chief game with marcus in a Chief's Jersey.

The battles were fantastic though, that's for sure.

Oh wait, I forgot to add.. I HATE THE RAVENS.

I'm still pissed at that fat oaf Siragusa for the illegal (and of course uncalled) hit on Gannon in that Championship game.
