The old dark house.
The innocents (well scary)
The haunting, the old one, with Clair Bloom.
Nosferatau.
A brilliant short film called 'Whistle and i'll come to you'.
And one that showed me my complete wimpiness (but i never looked away or covered my eyes like girls do) and that was 'The woman in Black'. Ridiculous.
Not gore fests. Just scary.

The Vincent Price "DR. Phibes" movies always kinda freaked me out when I was a kid. There were several with that character I think.

Depends on what you mean by "old".
The Exorcist
The Shining
The Thing (1982)
The Omen
...and jumping on the Phibes bandwagon...
The Abominable Dr. Phibes
Dr. Phibes Rises Again

I liked "Black Sabbath", "Carnival of Souls", and "The Haunting" also. I thought a lot of the Hammer Films were well done if not really scary.

[QUOTE=Boobala;5091951]Depends on what you mean by "old".
I started off by meaning real old Black and white one's, but then cheated and fired in a couple of noobies.
But both my noobies have an old dark feel to them and are more eerie than anything.
I couldn't believe 'Salems lot' as a tv series. I was surprised at the scariness of that at the time.
But if you haven't seen the 'Woman in Black' for creepy, old, eerie vibe, i highly recommend it. It's from a book by Susan Hill of the same name.
And 'The Haunting'. Well tough to watch alone that one.

I'm with you. The Shinning and The Thing (the older one isn't to bad either) are two of my all time favorites.

The vamp in Nosferatu still gives me the creeps. Tall, gaunt, Rosie O'Donnell ugly and those looooong fingers/nails.

The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (not really scary, but creepy, and holds up well considering its age).

Black Sunday (believe this is the correct title of the 1960 Mario Bava film)
The Haunting (Claire Bloom, Julie Harris)
The Exorcist ('nuff said)
Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte (maybe not a horror film, but scariest moment EVER in a film happens on the stairway)
Any of the big Four movies: Frankenstein, Dracula, Mummy, Wolfman

Exorcist never really did it for me. Found it a bit forced. Hush Hush Sweet charlotte stairway scene definitely.
One scene i remember that defines it was the last scene of Black Narcissus. The context,
those eyes, phew!!
