watch the kidman interview

now watch the witherspoon interview closely.... little strange looks from Reese at times that cam catches, when Dave isn't watching. Even says " yeah yeah ,good for you" 2:13 when Reese is trying to respond to Dave's comment...

Also seems like Dave isn't able to help himself hitting on the guests, which is funny to a point, right?

Man, is it me, or does she get hotter and hotter looking everytime I see her?
She's DEFINITELY not intimidated by him.

Letterman's embarrassing to watch. I hope he's drunk, at least then he'd have an excuse. I made it to 6:46 in the Kidman segment. I don't care to see more and am glad I quit wasting time staying up to watch him 20 years ago. Unbelievable. Sad.

She looks great for her age for sure! Great figure. I think she looks better in movies myself. She is not really my style though, but she seems like a nice woman. I prefer Asian girls...but the causian women I think are hot are your Adriana Limas, Stephanie Seymours, Jessica Biels, Zhang ZiYi's oops back to Asian hunnies again....:bong

Dave has always been terrified of good looking women. I used to watch his show a lot 20 years ago when it was still funny but he seems to have gotten a lot creepier about the woman thing now he's older.

What we saw in the Nicole Kidman interview is the blood rushing from Dave's brain down to his other head.

Simple, really. :D

I used to love Letterman when he came on at 12:30, and the band was a four-piece, no horns!

He got really cranky prior to his heart attack, and seems to be slipping back into the cranky crap. Way too much making noises, and other things that appeal to....who? 12 yr old boys?

When Hunter Thompson was on, he was really out of it, slurring his words, and Letterman was trying to keep the wheels on the segment. Now, every night, Letterman sounds out of it. Too bad, because I did believe he was the legitimate heir to the Johnny Carson late night legacy.

I don't think he's been the same ever since he didn't get the Tonight Show gig back in the day.

I used to love his show in the "old days". Now I think he's guilty of the worst thing that can happen to a comedian:

He's no longer funny.

BTW...ever watch the old Carson shows that are now available on DVD? They plainly show a master at work. I'm not sure anyone will ever touch him in the late night arena.

Those old shows are still funny as hell...even when you know what's coming.

If someone put together a book of pictures of Dave's grimaces since the early
80s, it would weigh a ton.

He's always been a hermit, and admitted about a year ago that he was diagnosed
with a personality disorder that makes him avoid social situations. He also said
he used to be a heavy drinker.

Out of curiosity, what do you think he's worth?
I think he has 3 years left on his contract. Should he retire now?

I think the Kidman night was the night he announced the death of the guy who had been head electrician for the show for a lot of years. Dave seemed shocked and visibly upset when he made the announcement.

I doubt if he could just shrug it off and go on like it was nothing. He seemed a little off to me all that night.

I've been watching Letterman since he began his late show on NBC in the early eighties.
A number of years ago, he had gotten into the habit of being very
sarcastic toward his guests. The comedian Louie Anderson said, "On the
Letterman show, the guest IS the joke." This resulted in many prospective
guests refusing to appear on his show. In order to keep the boat afloat,
Letterman has adopted a fawning, flattering, almost reverential attitude
toward his female guests, apparently to keep himself above further criticism.

Nicole Kidman was a tough interview for Letterman because she does not
tolerate BS and/or insincerity. In the middle of the disasterous recent interview
on the Late Show, in order to save things, Letterman trotted out his standard
"Oh, you're so beautiful," line. It did no good.

I think Letterman has a great comedic talent, but is a borderline social idiot.
This is why the show is so fascinating and why I watch it.

Dave started off good, but man he sure isnt aging well. He has some bitterness brewing a little too close the surface, seems to me. Not good.

Daves not drunk thats his schtick. Its not your type of humor ,too bad. Dave's great and offers a great way of interviewing folks thats a little off and doesn't keep it serious or hard. He has the highest ratings, the best band, and he enjoys himself. I could go on an insult tirade on some of you, but, whats the point. You like it or you don't.

I don't lie Jays stuff as much and his band isn't nearly as entertaining to me as Shafers nor Max's band. I do like Max's band a lot. Nicole Kidman? You're talkin about someone who thought Tom Cruise was the schizzle. She is attractive, a good actor, but not exactly teaming with personality. I find Dave's humor stimulating with an edge of intellect and self deprecating. Its fine by me. He doesn't take things too seriously. If she didn't come back its cause of her own insecurities. Hopefully she is not that shallow.

And Carson loved Dave and wanted him to he his replacement. In fact, while Johnny was alive, he still wrote some great material that Dave did, with no credit to Johnny. Johnny, only needed to see Dave do it for his gratification.

20 years ago he was past his prime. It was the earlier stuff, I would say roughly up to/no later than '85 that I really liked. Before he wore double breasted suit jackets with loafers.

He did an interview on the old show with Oliver Reed, twice but one time they were going at each other. The first thing Reed did when he came from behind the stage and shook Dave's hand was pull Dave hard toward him. Which set it off.

WELL SAID! Agree totally.
Unfortunately, many real women would react like Kidman did in this last interview... warm at arms length, wary of off comments or jokes as soon as ANY personal attention was given, even a look would be enough...
Seriously though, in all fairness to Kidman who was probably very offended but couldn't show it, I have seen Dave get very embarrassed, slightly angry when guests have encouraged the man to marry his girlfriend and ask him personal questions.... so.... whatever right?

Even the well grounded wholesome Reese Witherspoon, had her facial expressions to Dave. Dave is OFF his regular game lately, seriously not way off, but as RedRock stated already, it wouldn't take much to come off just plain stupid socially..

It all started with the almost legendary interview he did with Natassia Kinski where he reduced her to tears by endlessly bugging her about her bizarre hairdo. And then John Candy came out with his hair done the same way. It was classic.

Kidman chose to be there because of business, not because she wanted to 'appear on the Letterman show' for altruistic reasons. She was hawking a movie and she seemed to be uncomfortable talking about anything else. Many (most?) people I expect, would tune in to watch Kidman for a lot of reasons; however, tuning in just to watch her hawk her movie is probably not even in the top 10.

I feel the complete opposite.
Conan is the about the only one who keeps it really cool. I check out all of the late night shows...they're all OK...but Conan seems to be the only pleasant one, that the guests actually like. -the worst being Carson Daly...then Kimmel...and Dave really is obtuse with a lot of folks...leno is just very "L.A." badda-bing...

He's so lame it's embarrasing.
I remember during the twilight of his carreer Johnny was taking some heat for not being as funny as the early days; but he was always brilliant.

I completely agree with the above. I gave up after Dave rehashed the " 'dem bats use radar! " line every episode for months. It wasn't funny the first time, let alone the 130th. "Know your cuts of meat", the worst 5 minutes on TV, I felt.
What happened?

Here's to Conan not following suit once his time slot changes.

Sometimes the funniest thing he does is waste lots of time early in the show, which must create unbearable tension for the final guest, or even the first. I think Letterman is weird. I used to love him back in the day when he was on at 12:30 and could be more counter-late night-culture. But since the move to CBS he's gone broad. Plus, he's not really that funny.

I went to his show a few years ago - super weird experience. All you are told (almost like brainwashing) is to LAUGH at everything Dave says, even if it wasn't that funny!! He's that insecure. It was awful. Now all I hear if I ever tune in is that over the top audience laughter over material that isn't funny.

In my opinion Conan is a brilliant full-spectrum comic. When he changes
time slots I hope the network doesn't force him to lose his edge. He'll
be playing to a somewhat different demographic, so some of the current
material will have to be reined in. It will be interesting to see how he solves
this problem. I think he will adjust and do well.
