Like a good OP, I'll give some examples first.

Alexander Howard Dumble (or whatever his real name is). An aquaintence of mine had a few Dumbley's and he knew I had The Trainwreck. Saw him at a guitar show, he wrote it down and said "I told Howard about your TW. Shoot him an email, he would be glad to chat with you"
(Me......I am like WTF?????)

Jack Blades...through a forward from someone who is "connected". He forgot to hide the email addresses when he shot the forward out.

Just got this one the same way..He is from Findlay, Ohio about 30 miles from ole Mayberry.
I know some guys that know Ben, he sent out a mass forward and he didn't hide the email addresses

(I don't know what they call it when you hide the email address and it just shows the name, but I do know that I always hide the address of others when I do a forward)

Had Randy White's number for a while, he lives not far from me. Nicest celeb I've ever met.

I knew a musician who worked with Tia Carrere (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Tia+Carrere&btnG=Google+Search). A friend of mine jokingly asked if he could get her phone number, so I asked my musician friend and he gave me her home phone number! I gave it to my friend whose reaction was something like "Oh great. I can't actually DO anything with this! Besides, her husband would probably answer..." :p

I studied classical guitar when I was in college, and once happened to meet a friend of Andres Segovia. He gave me Segovia's phone #. I never called and always felt vaguely guilty for having his number.

Then back when I was playing a lot of serious fingerstyle acoustic guitar someone gave me the business card of Will Ackerman who is a famous fingerstyle acoustic player and the CEO of Windham Hill records. (The man was related to Ackerman and he'd heard me play.) I never used that either.
