Just wondering if anybody knows about this stuff. I was nosing around in the cellar and found these:

Any clue how much they would be worth? Or where I might get some information?

I don't know how much they're worth, but next time a gun show's in town take them there. There's always people selling/buying German and American war memorabilia.

I don't know anything about them but I think they're really cool. A friend of might might be interested in buying some of them from you - I'll ask him about it.

Thanks guys. Yeah, maybe I ought to look around in the cellar some more. Given that my dad was in WW2 (on the American side) I'd love to keep them; a real piece of history. Thing is, I rather get my recording computer fixed. From what I've been able to find out, the top row is: a infantry assult medal, two multiple-wound medals in silver, a Winterschlacht Im Osten (on the reverse); which is the first Winter campaign in Russia, and the Iron Cross First Class. Bottom row I'm not so sure about, but I think the first one is a civilian Nazi emblem and the last one is for close combat.

Infantry Assualt badge, two Wound badges, don't know the next, and first class Iron Cross. In the front, don't know and the wide one is a General Assault Badge.

The Nazis had a zillion medals. Tons of civilian medals, too. Even moms who bore children "for the fatherland" were awarded medals. The more kids you bore, you could work your way up to "gold".

I don't know anything about the current values. I use to follow that stuff years ago before the internet with a company called Manions Auctions. I'd bet you could find out a lot online nowadays.

because 99% of the time when someone has old silver or other medal or military stuff that they shined up to take to the Antiques Roadshow, the dude tells them they rubbed off the value when they cleaned it. Better to find out what they are and what the proper thing to do is before shinning them up.

Cool stuff...I have some Nazi memorabilia.
The most unusual is an original Hitler youth brown shirt(Storm Troopers c:21), when they were just street thugs. It is awfully small, the kid that wore it could not have been very old.
It is mint and is all hand sewn.
All my stuff came an old bluegrass picker who was dying.
He sold me his 58 D28 and alot of WWI "era" stuff that he brought back.
I also have my Grandpa's WWI items(medals and Purple heart)
Your best bet,
Go to a gun show and you will find out the street value.
Tough market out there for Nazi items.(IME)

I'm not super big into this, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

The medals themselves won't be worth that much without the ribbons. Also, for them to be worth the most you need to know who they belonged to and that man's history. Most collectors want the story the medal represents, otherwise it's just like all the thousands of other medals that look just like it.

You know, Hugo Boss designed the Hitler Youth uniforms(and some of the other SS gear) during his later years. Just a little aside of useless knowledge for you guys.

Interesting. I always thought those leather trench coats were fabulous.

Thanks for the heads up, but I am sure it is not a "Boss".
Interesting read on Hugo though.

Good advice if you decide to sell later.

Good advice if you decide to sell later.

It would be excellent advice if I was living back home in Oklahoma, but in the nearly 20 years I've been living in Connecticut I can't recall there ever being a gun show here! :dunno

Ooops!
Like NY where I grew up.

I have a Dress Hat pin from my Great Great Grandfather's Grand Army of the Republic from the War between the States.
So that makes it almost 150 years old.

You'll get ripped off at a gun show. Lots of scammers.
If you want to sell them, sell on the internet. Good collectors can tell whats fake and whats real. You'll have to post photos of the backs too. The ribbons aren't needed for value.
I suggest joining this forum:http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/
I'm a WWII reenactor and see this stuff all the time.

I have a couple pins that my grandfather got. I don't what soldier they came from or how he got them but for me they hold more sentimental value than monetary anyway. I have his old Navy footlocker too, which is where I found them.

Like watching the antiques roadshow!:munch
