View Full Version : Introducing the new Gjika 25 watt 6v6 amp

Bob Gjika has designed a new amp that is a small low powered amp perfectly suited for small clubs and recording.

It is the latest from his direct Coupled Series. Fans of “point to point” wiring will be excited about direct coupling as it provides the shortest possible signal path through the amp. The results are some of the highest fidelity tones available. The amp uses NOS tubes, and the highest quality NOS and modern components throughout. The amp is definitive of the highest example of craftsmanship and tone.

Housed in a small head box, the controls are: Presence, Tone, and Volume and a switch that changes the parameters of the tone control which takes the heavy power out of the amp for a shimmering high end tone. On the back is a speaker damping switch which opens the amp up for speaker coupling and a higher gain sound.

The amp is extremely versatile, covering blackface and tweed territory with plenty of gain on tap. It has the feel of a small amp with the power of a big one. Overall it is an incredible sounding, versatile amp that exemplifies Bobs amazing craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Incredible sounds as usual. I bet it would pair nicely with my XITS Sadie with EL-84's for some great classic rock tones.

I thought I heard him say Jensen but not sure.
If they are Jensens what model?

The speakers are a pair of vintage 1960 P12Ns as would come in a hi power twin. They are in the smaller open back cab. They have that rich, warm alnico tone. We tried it through my '64 AC30 cab with blues and it was incredible, but the blues leave their mark on everything that gets played through them. The P12N is also tough enough to handle the amp in a single speaker setting without the edge the gold alnico Celestion can have due to the copper voice coil. It sounded great through a single gold, but the Jensens are warmer.

In the first gold top video he switches to the bigger cab with a sealed back, loaded with the heritage Celestion 55hz. You can hear that Marshall thump and deep, tight sound.

Hey Dave, Sent a PM your way.

Bob built those guits in the videos and myspace. He was a top guitar tech back in the day and had shops in Boston, Memphis, and in Austin. He builds guitars on the level of anyone out there. From lumber on up. Finishing and pickups included. These days he sticks to the amps, but has built some amazing guitars for his own personal use lately.

Gilman, Yes those are Alnico speakers. Kind of unique in the fact that one can handle the wattage (even though there are 2 in that cab) and are Alnico with a paper voice coil. Great sounding speaker!

fwiw:
i, too, love bob's vibrato.

ian, this sounds like a killing combo,
guitar + amp.
have you played the amp with a detuned instrument?
if so --- how does the low-end hold together?
as well:
how does the amp fare for "crossover" tones, ie:
cleaning up
at the guitar's volume roll-off?

Yep, nice vibrato.
Per DT's queries - love to hear a cleaning up, snap shot - add mine. Is Echo pre, post or loop?

Best, Pete.

Echo is a tube echoplex ep2 between the guitar and amp.

We hit it with the guitars tuned to G and D for the slide stuff. The amp is very balanced across the frequencies and the bass notes hold together very well at any volume or gain. Unlike some smaller amps where the bass washes out. The amp is extremely touch responsive. The eq switch, which is more than that really, I don't know the technical details of it, changes the character from a sparkly shimmery tone to a raunchy tweed sound. Basically it's like an eq shift switch. Then there is the speaker damping switch in the back that kicks the drive up.

Also, the amp is extremely responsive to different tubes.. and speakers. He has had a variety of power and rectifier tubes in it while dialing it in. The availability of great NOS 6V6 tubes is what is making it possible to offer this amp.

Bob's stuff is out of this world. I've been dreaming about a tweedy little brother for my KT77.

WOW Ian and WOW Bob!

The amp sounds great, ESPECIALLY in vid #2 at about 3:40 when Bob switches the EQ switch to what I think is the Tweed style setting - very versatile!

What a stunner guitar Ian. Any chance of playing that at NAMM ... or somewhere soon. Any chance of playing Bob's new fab sounding amp around the same time (GRIN).

Sincerely, great job on both. I love Bob's vibrato too!

Thanks, Dana Olsen

Hey Dana!

Thanks! Yeah Bobs amp does the blackface and tweed thing, greatly. Total ZZ Top and then gets a glassy clean blackface thing going on.

I don't know what is going to become of that gold top at this point. I'll be at NAMM as a spectator, and I am pretty sure Bob will be there as well. If there was an opprotunity like a jam or somthing I am sure we could bring some gear up.

Neither, Bob has his own way of direct coupling construction for tone reasons.

Its a great amp guys..
Bob knows his stuff for sure.

I have never heard an amp that sounds quite like a Gjika.

This particular one sounds like Cream era Clapton at his very best.

Bob and I shot some more video of his push pull 6V6 amp the other day. The single 12 cabinet is loaded with a Celestion T1217 heavy magnet lead cone.

He is playing a couple of my guitars. Details are in the videos.

We also shot a video of his push pull 50 watt KT66 amp. It's running through a closed back 2x12 loaded with Celestion 55hz greenbacks.

Also, Bob demos his Gainmaster and Germanium drive pedals which he is combining to create his new Gainmaster Plus.

The guitar is a Gjika strat.
