ValveTrain Amps introduces the Concord Amp.

http://www.valvetrainamps.com/images/amps/concord.jpg

ValveTrain Amplification is pleased to announce the release of the Concord Amplifier. Retail priced at $499 the Concord boasts all point to point hand wiring and delivers a blistering 6 watts RMS through a custom designed 10" speaker.

Designed in the tradition of the masters, the Concord features a 12AX7 dual-triode preamp tube driving the signal through a 6V6 power tube. Inspired by the simplicity of the amp designs of the 1960's, the amp controls are Volume, Treble and Bass. Built with top shelf components, this Concord is the real deal. All major components including our custom designed, hand made 10” speaker, are proudly made in America. The chassis is constructed of high grade aluminum with custom wound transformers, and are hand wired at our ValveTrain facility in Sorrento, Florida.

The Concord delivers a varied tonal spectrum from shimmering cleans through crunch all the way to total saturation. A quick flick of the guitar volume knob controls the full range of the Concord's voices. The Concord is great for home, studio or small venues and with a microphone in front, it will fill the largest of venues.

"We went back to school on the design this amp." said Rick Gessner of ValveTrain. "We looked hard at how companies like Fender and Ampeg were able to design and build high quality professional amplifiers at competitive prices in the 60's. We followed their approach and this enabled us to produce a top quality hand wired amp at a very attractive price."

Named for Concord, Massachusetts, the town where the Revolutionary War started, the Concord is the first shot of the effort to bring high value, hand built production amplification back to American shores. There are over 50 American small to medium size businesses in the supply chain behind every one of these amps.

The Concord will be at local ValveTrain dealers starting in December 2008.

Hi Rick,
Very cool model. Is there provision to plug an extension cab or bypass the 10"?

Loni,

Great question...

There are 3 jacks on the back... 1 at 8 ohm and 2 at 4 ohm.

The speaker has a 1/4" plug on it so you can disconnect it...
(by the way... you should hear it through a 4x12 cabinet... it ROARS!!)

Cool, now that's a good reason to drive to Leesburg...didn't know they were a dealer, never been in that shop.

But, Lark Street (in Teaneck) should have one towards the end of next week...

well shucks... guess i figured it was time to offer an alternative to sending all our hard earned AMERICAN dollars to China...

In actuality, every time one of you folks buys one of these, there are over 50 (well, 56 at last count) American businesses in the supply chain... (including your home town dealer)

These parts are built in the USA
Cabinet - Ohio, Chassis - Florida, Transformers - Illinois, Faceplates - Pennsylvania , Speaker - Minnesota, Eyelet Board - Michigan, and designed and built in Florida...

All the other components down to the smallest bolt come from US distributors...

So there you have it...

Just doin' our part to break this economic crisis... (stay tuned, there's more on the way....)

Happy Holidays to All!!

Rick:
I see it's 18 lbs, great. With 6V6 tube I assume the Real Vintage speaker is American voiced? Will the amp like pedals, i.e. OD/reverb/trem, i.e. Barber LTD SR, Barber Tone Press, Boss/Fender FDR-1?
Thanks

Rick, Where is the best place to order one of these to Canada? Or are there any dealers located near Buffalo, NY?

Great to see a real product built in North America at down-to-earth prices. Anybody who decides to buy any one of the low-power chinese built amps (orange tiny terror and ad-5, blackstar ht-5, ect..) is nuts. This amp looks to be where its at.

The speaker is similar to an old C10R Jensen. Compared to the re-issues the RV is much smoother across the mids and not as harsh on the top.

Here's a response curve...

And yes, it do seem to like pedals... but the natural overdrive is very cool just by itself...

(but then I guess you would expect me to be biased...)

None of our Canadian dealers have one yet, but check any of these folks...
Eddie's, Lark Street, Melodee Music, Starr's, Super Sound, Gryphon Stringed Instruments, Route 1 Guitars, Wekiva Music and Fat Tone all have them...

Saw one at Lark Street last weekend. Looks very nice indeed. Coould it be run with a 16 Ohm cab out of the 8 Ohm output?

got mine today from fat tone... I'm blown away by the tone. Volume at low levels while keeping the tone was a must... this thing really screams too!

The 416 sounds like a neat offering, so there are two "channel volumes" and then a 3rd master?

Love to see some pics of the finished product when it ready for show, or if Melodee gets one in, I'll have to check it out. Do you use your inhouse 10" in the 2x10 combo?

Valvetrain
04-20-2009, 05:37 AM
Littlejohn,

yes, there are 2 parallel channels - Normal (darker) and Bright. Each voice has a boost switch for mids to highs and a little gain. The master is at the end of the line and controls overall output... The 2x10 uses an Eminence Ramrod and a Ragin Cajun. I think Rick at Melodee (Leesburg) has a 1x12 in stock...

thanks,
Rick

Has anyone tried different speakers on this amp? What about different tubes? Cheers!
