I wanted to test the sound of a head amp I have without the ext cab. Still waiting for my cab to arrive.

I do have a combo amp with a 1x12 installed. Its 8 ohm and matches the head specs close enough for speaker wattage and the head has 8 0hm input...

Can I just unplug the cable from the main combos chasis and plug it into the heads 8 ohm? Someone told me I can;t do that cause heads "have to be" plugged into external cabs and that uses different thicker cables. Specifically a head to cab cable. That I knew, but I did not know about connecting to a combos int. speaker.

Whats the verdict on this issue?

What about buying a head to cab cable and cutting off one end and splitting out the hot and ground, adding clamps to each lead and then just slip those over the internal combos speaker leads...You know red for hot and blk for grd?

Need answer yesteday thx!

If the cable on the combo is long enough ,yes, no problem just plug it into the head. Of coarse dont turn on the combo with its speaker unplugged!

Speaker wire is speaker wire! Whether its the combos wire or one made for a head to cab.

I made an extention cable specifically for using a combos speaker with another amp with a 1/4 plug on one end 1/4 jack on the other. None of my combo's internal speaker wires are long enough to unplug from the amp into a head.

If you do it like this make sure you unplug the combos speaker from the amp. Personally I'd just and a jack to the end. Bob
