You who know, what's the best HRD bias setting to save the amp at high volumes? (or is that dumb, do i mean save the tubes?)
Planning on dropping it down to 4ohms with the cool celestion loaded HRD extension cab and giggin it at moderate volumes.
Is the factory setting 60mA???

60ma is a safe bias setting for two 6L6's.

From what Ive read installing a fan might be your safest best. Bob

really, a Fan? I've seen plenty of HRDs around here gigging, but never a fan.

Dont know if the problem area was corrected but Ive read a lot of posts cooncerning certain resistors getting hot enough to desolder themselves from the board on the HRD. I had mine for a few years and didnt have any problems though. At any rate a fan never hurts. Bob

Anyone else out there set their bias on their HRD with a multimeter?
What tubes, rating and bais setting did you go with?

They seem to do fine with the factory 30mA per tube setting. Yep, 60mV across the 1 Ohm resistor at the bias measuring point.

opps, i guess i meant mv, Not mA on my original post. I'm at 67 Mv (multimeter at test point). Got a 4 ohm load with the hot rod extension cab for bigger live stuff. Maybe i'll drop it more. Got it up to volume thou, sounds good. Clean still breaks up at 6-7.
thanks.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I would love to start biasing my own amps.... and learning more about the inner workings of the tones I love so much.
Can this be achieved by using one of these...?
Is it this simple....?

These are on ebay at around 27 bucks.
