Swart AST and Tung-Sol 5881 re-issues

Does anyone know if a pair of Tung-Sol 5881 re-issues work in my Swart Atomic Space Tone?

The amp is designed to be able to run 6V6's and 6L6's, and as far as I understand 5881's are essentially 6L6's so in theory they should be fine. I am just checking to see if anyone can back it up.

They should be fine. Just bias them correctly.

IIRC the AST is cathode biased, so no need to bias them when you swap tubes.

I go back and forth with 6v6's and 6l6's depending on the gig, and have no problems; sounds killer both ways.

"Self biasing" doesn't necessarily mean "correct biasing" for 2 different types of tubes.

gotcha, still sounds fine swapping 'em, and hasn't exploded yet.
