Just installed a set of Area T pickups in my highway 1 tele. Area T neck and virtual hot T bridge. Boy do these things scream. The neck is sweeter and has way more girth than any other tele neck pickup and the bridge screams in a dumbly/fusion way with my zendrive 2 but still has enough of the tele lead pickup bite to satisfy those chickin' pickin' urges.
It's turned a relatively inexpensive guitar into a boutique sounding screamer.

WOO HOO!! Another convert!
I have this setup and I can't imagine changing it. The Area T neck is the closest thing I've found to DiMarzio's own Twang King neck p'up, one of the sweetest sounding pickups ever.
I wish I could find a Strat bridge that sounds like the Hot T bridge, but I just got the Virtual Solo a couple of days ago and will install that this weekend.
The Hot T (I've heard) is the Virtual PAF in a Tele bridge package. It could use a LITTLE more treble, but I'm pretty happy with it for clean as-is. Dirty, it's everything I've wanted in a Tele bridge; pushes stompboxes and amps nicely, yet still has that single-coil midrange (and then some).
Mine is a '93 Standard Tele (first year in Mexico, I think) and this set was a nice upgrade to the Twang Kings that had been in there since '97.

agreed with your assessment. I'd like a little more brightness on the bridge for the twangy stuff but the scream tone is so good that it's an acceptable compromise.
The neck sounds like a paf mated with a strat neck.

Yeah, I love those pickups too. I'll do some demos on the tele in a few days.

I'm another convert. I love my virtual hot T bridge. Not as ice-picky as vintage bridge pups and has none of the mud I got with the Hot Rails for Tele.
