Anybody on here buy materials from True Fire? They seem to have a lot to offer but I thought I would ask some of the "professionals" about thier stuff. Thanks for your input.

I have a bunch of their stuff. Pretty much hit and miss. Some really good, and others not as helpful to me. However, I should say that they have changed up their formats quite a bit since I last purchased. If I saw something I really wanted, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

I would agree with the previous poster, much of their material is hit and miss. Or the items start out fantastic and fade rapidly. But compared to many other cd-rom formats I ahve tried, True fire is better.

As others said, hit and miss. Depends on the topic and the instructor. David Hamburger and Brad Carlton are 2 of my favorites.
There is a forum on the website that discusses some of the courses.
The website also has a video and audio from each course.

I've been fairly happy with the Truefire stuff I've bought, I've got the Mimi Fox & Larry Carlton courses. My only complaint is that the lesson vids play in a tiny friggin' window on your desktop, and there's no way to enlarge it... it's tough on old eyes.

Thanks for the input. I purchased the Chord Cookbook and the first thing I noticed was the very small window it plays in. I hope it will give me some new ideas to build on.

I have a level 2 subscription there. I think it's fantastic. It's the best instructional 'investment' I ever made. There's enough there to keep one busy for 3 lifetimes. And they always seem to be adding more content and more 'goodies'.

Absolutely love their stuff!
I recommend Brad Carlton and Frank Vingola's stuff. The new Chord Cookbook by Matthew Brandt I think is also very good. My single favorite course is "Vamps, Jams and Improvs by Frank Vingola.

The forum is pretty topnotch with many friendly folk and they are having their annual 12 Days of Christmas sale starting 12-13-08 with some deep cuts on much of their stuff. Lots of freebies to be found if you visit. If nothing else stop by the forum and say hi!

I have a few of their courses. Seems real expensive for what they offer. Not really worth it, IMO.

I use it and really like it. You could structure years worth of worthwhile courses with outstanding instruction. My schedule recently forced me to end my regular face-to-face lesson with an instructor I really enjoyed. TrueFire has been a great replacement. This applies, in my view, for the full-range of courses - beginner to advanced. As far as pricing goes, it is far less than personal instruction. Not a perfect replacement, but a really good one, in my view, for a disciplined student willing to follow the video, Power Tabs, and charts each course provides.

The David Hamburger stuff is very well done.

I also think Brad Carlton does a great job; even though at times, he seems condescending or implying that I should already know something.

Doesn't guitarplayertv.com carry about the same thing, except for free?
I know GP used to be tied to TrueFire but I'm not sure that's still the case. But, from what I remember about TF, GPTV was pretty much the same thing.

Bought a few of their offers out of curiosity ...
the only problem is that True Fire it isn't a continual playing DVD ...
I rarely, if ever, can sit in front of an instructional video..
especially having to click on a certain lesson ..
I'd rather just let them play continually over my TV while I do things around the house ...
Osmosis ...

I do that all the time with the Hot Licks DVD's while I'm working at my workbench. I sure hope that whole Osmosis thing really works... How long's it usually take? :D

I really like their courses, especially Brad Carlton. I'm a level 2 member and just prepaid for a full year. Well worth the money.
