I just got a used THD Bi-Valve and a good assortment of tubes to play with. I was really liking the 6v6 tubes and was wondering what other tubes would work in this amp. The website just says switch to LO-V setting when using the 6v6 class tubes. My question more directly is what falls into the 6v6 class. A 6G6 and 6K6 came as extra tubes. This amp can be anywhere from 2.5 watts all the way to 30 watts depending on the tubes. I'd like to drop it down as far as I can go for bedroom levels and up from there as I need it. Thanks

6F6g will work also, and is a very nice old tube.
Here's a great site for looking up tube data.
This link will take you to a page of tube types with the same base (7AC) as the 6v6/6l6 family.

OK. Don't flame me, but I've got to ask: Is it safe to use ANY of these "similar characteristic" tubes as a direct replacement for the 6V6s in my Deluxe Reverb? Or are there other considerations that must be taken into account? And, if so, please help me understand more.

Thanks!

I'm not aware of anything similar to a 6V6 than will handle over 400V on the plates which is what the DR will provide.

Understood.

Thanks, Mike!

If you want a good sounding and indestructable 6V6 tube get some Bendix 5992's , not cheap but will last forever . I'm betting these will handle higher voltages .

As long as I've had it (1967), it's always had 6V6s in it. I don't know if it's worth it to find some 6F6s. Mike?

Dumb question here....what happens if I put a 6F6 in a BF Vibrochamp?

FYI -- 6F6 is a true pentode, while 6V6 is a beam tetrode

Not sure. What's the max spec on those and what's the cathode voltage? You have to subtract that from the plate voltage.
