Also threw down for the 2408 MK III(not like I had a choice as I needed the latest PCI 424 card). I have most all of my plugins(Audio Units as well as VSTs) loaded up and the computer is totally screaming(I'm starting off with 1.5 GIG of RAM). I should have the kinks out in a couple of days.

How are the AU plugs working? I've heard mixed reviews.

Cool!
I'm thinking I'm gonna have to throw down for a dual G5 sooner than I thought. Plugs like Altiverb, Mach 5 and Waves Masters eat up serious processor power. I can rarely use even two at the same time and sometimes I feel like the machine's wearing lead boots using just one.
P.S. - that's with already over a gig of RAM

Great news, how long did it take to get everything up and running? Luv that feeling when everything is squared away.
Any particular reason you didn't go for firewire? 828MkII I think.
Just had my G4 Panther freeze up for the 1st time last night. Arghh, I thought they said this will never happen.

I use Mach 5 as well, and it's great.
I'm using it with a G4 with no problems. It also does a nice job of converting sample libraries, though a few don't translate as well as I'd like.
What's wonderful is having all of your samples on your hard drive, and not having to load a bunch of hardware samplers, as I've always had to do in the past.

I'm super jealous that you have a G5. I recorded with one last week and it just made me cry how much faster it is than my old G4.

There's some incredible stuff out there, I think you can load up the entire Vienna Philharmonic for about $3K or something. East West has some unbelieveably real pianos and their own symphonic orchestra, too.
The piano that comes with Mach 5 is already better than any sample I've ever used.

Not to mention that there's almost no hardware limit to your sample size. Remember when a 16 meg 3-strike piano sample was the upper limit?

--chiba Heard that. I was rocking one of the first generation Dual 1 GIG G4s with 1.5GIG of RAM before this machine.

Wow. What did you do with that 'old' machine?

--chiba I sold it to a buddy out in Chicago, along with my old 2408 and MIDI timepiece. I scored a USB Midiman Radium and now I'm in CC Nirvana.

Matte, I run a Dual G5 and a Radium Midiman too.
I'm looking into MOTU boxes. I'm thinking of going with the 828.
