I'm having trouble picking a speaker for my 1x12" Alessandro WD combo. I play blues, jazz, soul, pop, and classic rock. I do not want the speaker to add/subtract any frequencies from the sound, I do not want the speaker to add distortion, and I do not want the speaker to punch the sound out. I do want the sound to fill the area - gently. I want the punch to come from my picking and volume. I want the blend of bass/mid/treble to come from my guitar and the amp's tone controls not from the speaker. The Jensen C12N that came with the amp has too much low frequencey response making me turn the amp's bass to zero and keep the midrange at no more than 60%. BTW, "chime" does not seem to be what I want unless you think that Larry Carlton and Jeff Golub have "chime". Are there any speakers under $150 that will do what I want?

Eminence has a 12" 300 watt pa style speaker that sounds incredible for guitar, I forgot the name of it though...

You may want to look at eminnence delta pro. It seems to meet your requirements. Neutral response and no inherent chime.

Btw, I love both artists you mentioned and they both have a little chime on their albums when they used strats( nature of the beast).

speakers are hard to recommend. i'm not sure 2 people could agree on what a "neutral sounding speaker" sounds like. that said, I think the eminence Red White and Blue sounds very even. i've been very satisfied with mine. good luck with your search.

The Jensen Neo is pretty darn neutral sounding to me. The Weber Neomag or California might do it for you, too, as could a vintage JBL or a Beyma Liberty.

I've also been trying different speakers with my WDRott and I found that the EV 12L, while it may not be totally flat eq wise, sounds the most like Carlton's sound to my ear (maybe because that's what he uses ya think?).
They don't break up at all and give thicker, sweeter mids without cranking the volume.
I've tried Eminenence Cannibus Rex with good results for a smoother, more even tone (less bass) with mellower (but plenty of) highs than the C12N.
The Celestion Gold may add chime but sounds very good, clear, and right for that circuit if you want to go that way.
I've got a Weber Michigan, an EV SRO and a Sholz I'm going to try next sometime soon. You can PM me if your interested in those results.

You might try some of the new Fanes. They have one that is called a Studio L that is supposed to be like an EVM.

Back in the 70's-80's I had 12" EV SRO speakers, and I loved them. I had a pair in a SF Twin, and in the 80's I put one in a Music Man RD112. Those amps weighed a ton. I was hoping that one of the new Neo magnet speakers would come close without breaking my old back. Have you looked at the Eminence Delta Pro-12A?

I tested out the Jensen MOD 12-35 recently and it seemed pretty flat to me. No real spikes jumping out at me. 35w and cheap.

Ha! I also have a Musicman RD112 with an SRO in it! It's a smaller amp so it's not too heavy. The alnico EV really thickens up that transistor preamp and overdrive section nicely. Great cleans.
I also have a Delta Pro A around here somewhere and while it is clean and flat, I've learned to expect that when someone says something sounds "like" an EV or anything else, it just ain't quite the same.
That being said the Delta might remind me more of my Sholz but I haven't A/B'd them at the same time so take that with a grain of salt.
Maybe I'll dig that up too to try with my Rottweiler. As I remember the Delta weighs a ton also.

+1 more on the Jensen Neo 12/100

They add nearly no color at all, Good for some guys, not so good for others, but clearly a very very neutral sound.

Yeah - look into Eminence Deltas - they make a few types Pro 12, 12A, 12 LFA and Delta Lites too - Pro 12 or 12A would probably be the right ones for you to look at. I have the 12A and the LFA but I personally prefer the LFA but they do roll off after 3k, whereas the Pro and the 12A roll off after about 4-4.5k. So you wont get tonnes of "chime" or presence like with an EV but there is more than enough tops available. All of the above will not add distortion to your sound. Except for the Delta Lites, which are rated at about 250W (from memory), the others are rated at around 400-500w so lots of clean headroom available and any dirt you hear comes from the amp not the speaker - great for fusion and higher gain Jazz stuff. They're all reasonably priced too. I picked my two Deltas for less than $100 Australian each new.

if the 12L is neutral, the jensen is not.
