I finally got EZ drummer, but now the drum sampler cannot load its midis into my reaper software. I got so fed up with it that I stopped messing with it for a while. The guy at toontrack was not too helpful either. So any suggestions how i can get these two softwares compatible with each other and get some sound out of the recordings?

Did you add it to a track as an effect?

no i did not, does that work? Guess I will try it out. Thanks for the tip!

yeah you've got to add a track, enable recording, open the FX dialog, type dfh in the search box and add EZD as a plugin effect. The EZD interface will open and you can pick your beat and variation, then just simply click and drag the pattern into your track and click/drag to pull it to the desired length

Make sure you add it as a vsti and not a dxi. The dxi wrapper does not work properly. It's also less efficient than the native vsti

__________________ok...first of all I enabled recording on a track, then opened my fx tab. It did not find dfh in the search box and how do I add EZ drummer as a plug in effect? Thanks for your help man, but I need a walk through. I guess I am pretty computer illiterate. ahaha!

Also, when I enabled recording, for some reason, the computer was recording my voice and I do not know how it was set up to do that. After I reregister my pod on this computer, I will record with it too.

OK sorry I'm going from memory and relatively new user but you have to set up your input to come from a MIDI source and not from the audio input your mic is on. Check the input dropdown for the track, also check under MIDI devices in your options I believe. Have you checked the documentation? I'll get back to you once I get home...

So when you open the FX dialog, did you try searching for EZ instead of dfh? Also, like Jack said, select the VSTi option from the list first

I am having trouble getting my ez drummer to show up on the fx menu in reaper.

I also followed these directions, but to no avail.

I bet I know what the issue is...

You keep looking for "EZDRUMMER" in the plugs...but it's not labelled as "EZ Drummer".
So try this....

1. create a track.
2. hit the "FX" button.
3. when the window opens enter "Toontrack" in the search field on the bottom
4. You should see "VSTi Dfh Sampler Toontrack (16 Out)".
5. Click on it and it will launch EZ DRummer.
6. if that doesn't work, re-install EZDrummer.

In order to reinstall ezdrummer, do i need the disc?

In order to reinstall ezdrummer, do i need the disc?

So you didn't find it when you searched your plugins?

Here's the deal...
It's a very easy, straight forward process, there are only so many variables involved.

1. You install EZDrummer and it's sound library to a location on your hard drive.
2. It has a VST & VSTi wrapper that allows it to work with Reaper, and that is part of the installation process.
3. Reaper usually scans your VST/VSTi plug-in folder when it starts up, so if the Toontrack/EZDrummer wrapper is in there it will find it and allow you to use it.
4. If Reaper doesn't find it, and list it as a VST or VSTi plug-in, then it wasn't installed to the correct directory.

One solution, if you know where to find it, is to show Reaper where to it is located.
To do that, open Reaper and do the following:
1. Go to "Options"
2. Go to "Preferences"
3. Look down the list on the left and you'll see "Plug ins", click on that.
4. Look under "VST"
5. everything to point Reaper to EZDrummer is there.
Here's what it looks like:

As for "do I need a disc" to reinstall....?

Just re-install it the same way you installed the first time. Make sure you pay attention to when it installs the VST wrapper.
Mine is located in C drive -> Program Files -> Vstplugins
where it shows up as "ezdrummer.dll"

I downloaded my copy from Toontrack directly, and it's saved on my hard drive in case I have to ever reinstall it.

so under the vst tab I went to add a file for it to lookup. I found the toontrack folder under program files and selected several different files from midi, and sounds. I uplaoded several different files within the folder and checked after each one to see if my ezdrummer appeared under vst in the fx menu, but none of them did. Each sound was a separate file in the folder, for instance, snare, bass, hat etc. There was no way to add everything in one file it seemed. I added the entire toontrack folder, but that did not work either.

Look, here's the deal...
I gave you detailed instructions on how to fix it.
You chose to do your own thing and it didn't work.

At this point you're on your own.

BTW - copy files to directories in not the same as reinstalling.

search the reaper forum. There is a video demonstrating how to use ezdrummer with reaper.

Try this - in Reaper go to Options > Preferences > select VST on the left side >

at the top you should see VST plugin settings and below that a box where you can either type or browse to the filepath/folder where you installed the toontrack dll file. Rescan the directory and try again to add it as an effect to a track....

i guess i will have to reinstall the program, even after following this vid, i could not open ezdrummer in reaper.

by the way, my version of reaper does not look like the one this guy is using. Could that possibly be a factor?

i doubt you need to reinstall. Did you see this screen when you clicked on fx and vsti:

Nah there are different "skins" out there that change the look but the program should be the same, it's frequently updated by the way.

I doubt you need to reinstall either, it's tricky and took me a minute but once I got it set up it's done.

You need to go to Options > Preferences > VST and set the directory for the EZ Drummer file. For me it's C:\Program Files\Toontrack\EZDrummer. Either browse to or autodetect to map that directory, apply the changes and rescan the directory or close Reaper and open it again. Add the track, open FX, and search the list of plugins

That's b/c you haven't told Reaper where to find the ezdrummer.dll file that it needs to run EZ Drummer! You have to go into Options>preferences>VST and map to the folder where the EZ Drummer .dll file is installed, then it will show up in the list. Not sure how to explain it any easier...

Logon at the Toontracks site and make sure EZDrummer is in your profile and that it is authorized there. I believe you can get the authorization codes from there if it is a legit copy and you shouldn't have an authorization issue unless the maximum number of instances have been exceeded. You asked if you needed the disks which makes me think you might not be the original owner/licensee (maybe?). I would exhaust troubleshooting help from the various resources recommended before trying to reinstall.

I was a complete newb at both Reaper and EZD and that BillyK video and alot of study of the Cockos site got me up and running. This is for someone (me) who had no clue on how to work a DAW or VSTis. Do a search for Reaper at Cockos and read up. You might also want to check out vdrums.com under the VSTi section. Lots of good stuff there and a similarly active and helpful forum as TGP. You might even find a good deal of similar questions you have already answered there including some of those coming from yours truly (same handle).

Be patient and good luck. I would be more helpful, but I layered in getting up to speed with MIDI using a Roland TD-12 and after I got all that figured out, I said a big SHITE and promised never to cross that path again. It is a fantastic tool once you get it working.

I think a couple of people have given you a solution to your problem and several of the sources cited have noted that you need to look for a VSTi that has a name you aren't expecting. *** Make sure you know where the directories are for EZD and add those into the list of scannable directories within Reaper. Once done, tell Reaper to rescan for VSTis and Toontrack should show up ***. Carefully look for it. I recall screaming out loud "where the hell is this thing?" It was there, I just didn't look hard enough for it.
