Reading up on the Zooms on this here forum and had a querstion.

Could PC recording software access/use the H2 or H4 mics and bypass the unit's recording functions?

I'm looking at putting together a simple PC recording system, and would love the flexibility of the Zoom.

Thanks!

AFAIK you can use the H4 as a USB interface with either internal or external mics. Not sure about the H2...

Yes, the H2 can be used as an external USB interface.

I have an H2 and love it. It's not the slimmest or prettiest recorder on the market, but it works great and the price is right!

The H2 is an USB Audio Interface just like the H4 however it does not come with software and of course does not have the same input capabilites as H4, XLR w phantom or 1/4 " with Guitar modeling.

Reaper is a great little DAW application that is not alot of money you can download and try for 1 believe 1 month for free. Some killer plug ins are available as well.

I'm using H2 with Reaper. Some latency problems, but I think I can work them out.

I have :

1: sm57 + edirol fancy interface into macbook
2: H2

I prefer H2 ... basically, the real difference in what a listener is going to pay attention is my playing and the H2 just lets me get to the playing without hardly any stuffing around. ... love the H2....

..... I know how you feel because I agonised over H2 vs H4 .... I was only interested in the H4 for the external Mic, .... but in the end, the H2 does a very good job ... in fact it does such a good job that it has made me realise that my only real hurdle is my own playing...

Big +1 to this. I also have an H2 and then a few mics with an interface and logic express etc. and find that I use the H2 90% of the time with great results. I've been extremely happy with it for simple acoustic stuff and live recording as well. Hope that helps!

it's a great little recorder, and those mics are nice and clear.

I love having an H2 around for recording quick ideas, rehearsals, or pretty much just capturing anything anywhere anytime. I love all the fun accessories it came with too!

Hi,
To use H2 as an audio interface make sure you go to the Zoom website and upgrade Firmware and download Asio drivers. I got real bad latency at first, but installing the H2 on another USB-port made a big difference on my laptop.

I love that little thing./C

Is there any difference in the H2/H4 mics?
