View Full Version : Do you play with Reverb on?

On amps equipped with their own Reverb, do you leave it on all the time, off all the time, or do you switch it on and off?
If you use two channels do you have one wet and one dry, or both on, the same, or different amounts?
If different, do you use more reverb (or reverb only) for Rhtyhm or Lead?
Obviously, we're all probably going to crank up some verb for a surf tune, but, I'm talking about using the built-in reverb as "part of your guitar sound" where it never, or rarely goes off.
Curiously,
Steve

I pretty much keep the verb on all the time. When I'm alone, I like more. In a band context it isn't really needed at all.
On two channel amps where you each channel has reverb control, I do use much less, if any, verb on the distortion channel.

IMO, too many players get anal about reverb. I use whatever is on the amp.

I only use it to add a touch of color... Never really wet, unless it's just me in the basement... It's very dead-sounding down there so - reverb helps.

I use just enough so you can hear it on my JazzKat playing solo. Playing rock/pop, I don't particularly care for it, and am okay with whatever the room naturally provides.

always on, just enough so it's there.

I to have seperate reverbs for each channel on my lonestar. I love it on the cleans and use it sparingly on the driven sounds.
I love reverb.

I do, and the impact of when I don't is an interesting contrast.
I also have reverb variety, Lexicon MPX. Verbzilla, and of course Accutronics in amp.
(the Verbzilla Room setting is the closest thing to the Lexicon I've found).
There is a sweet spot for reverb, don't miss the mark.

Stopped using it live except for certain parts in certain songs. I'll use a touch of delay instead of verb almost every time.

Love reverb! Usually use just enough to be heard... whether it be lead or rhythm. IMO, a little delay can get close to, but will never be tube driven spring reverb :bow. Now reverb AND delay together... That is some good stuff

Hate it usually. It depends on what I'm playing though. I like to hear everything very clean and tight. We'd practice with Neil Zaza and he'd have a huge rack of verb/delays. He'd compliment the dry tone and how clean it makes everything sound. I like that because it's more in your face and a challenge to play well. I always made sure sound guys keep all effx off my sound too, because it makes it sound too generic and you lose a lot of subtleties live. There's always natural acoustics anyhow. With any high gain tone, or even mid gain hard rock type gain, I much prefer dry, unless I'm wanting to sound like Van Halen or somethin'.
I'll use a bit on a clean tone or for a bluesy thing or chord solo type lounge lizard stuff.

The Lonestar has pretty good reverb. Just a touch is all I need usually, but if I want to crank it up and use it as an effect it sounds very lush.

I love 'verb! My Juke 1210 has some of the smoothest, sweetest, most luxolicious reverb ever. My Swart AST has some pretty sweet 'verb as well.

I always leave just a pinch on it to smooth out the sound whenever the amp back lined has reverb.

In amps that I have reverb I keep it on all the time. Enough were it could be heard.

I have it on about 2 or 3 all the time... just enough to add dimension to the sound.

i never use it. even on amps with it on. I never have. I don't know why. I used it once at home doing some recording and just used abit. I think i would rather have the sound guy do it at gigs and mix it in for that room than me do it.

I like to be able to toggle reverb on/off
I like it for clean/gainy leads or for arpeggiated, swirling, or airy rhythm parts played clean
Do not like it for tight funk, jazz, or rock rhythms with gain
I don't use it either. When practicing, things like that and delay I feel mask too much of what i'm listening for. Live, I never know what soundmen are doing so i leave my signal dry as possible. I've used in recordings though, after the fact.

Niether of my amps have verb. So I use a T Rex room mate. I just touch the signal lightly.

I usually vary it depending on the room or ensemble - on amps where the reverb control is easily accessible, I adjust it sometimes from song to song
....depending....

I played through a friend's Koch amp with no reverb. Man, it was brutal. Not sure if it was the amp or the lack of reverb (probably both) but even my student's solid-state Marshalls sound better.

Me too. Although my amps do have spring 'verb, I'm just sick of spring 'verb. It sounds old and lo-fi to me. I'm lovin' the Room-Mate. Great sound, very simple operation.

I hate reverb. None of my amps have it. Ones that I used to have that did, I rarely, if ever used it. I like my rythym parts to be tight and reverb clashes with that. I think most guys use way too much reverb too. It's like an addiction to some. They get used to it, so they pour on more and more.

i always have the 'verb on with my fender prri, but anything higher than a setting of 2 is too much.

I use my sole-mate most of the time. But only as an effect. I don't leave it on all the time! It makes my rhythm sound less tight etc... But for big leads and similar it is great:D

I play a Fender DRRI with a strat and a LP and leave it on all the time set at about 2.1.
