View Full Version : Difference between Tele & Strat neck p'up
How would you describe the:
(1) construction difference; and
(2) tonal difference
between a Tele and Strat neck pickup? :)

Tele - more turns of thinner wire, with a cover. Made for a round, archtop-like sound with attenuated treble.
Strat - fewer turns of thicker wire, without a cover. Clearer, brighter, more snap, and cuts through a mix better than Tele neck.
Once I had a keystone neck PU in my tele. It's a nice PU without the metal cover. It sounded just like my strat neck PU!
So, the big difference is really the cover.
geenguard got it right.
I like the Strat neck sound, but I'm not sure that I want to spring for the Strat guitar. I may ask Mare to wind me one.
Thank you for the input. :)

S-Telly!!!!
I was just about to start a thread on this exact subject!
I ordered an S-Telly neck pickup last night for my tele, which will be replacing the WCR Crossroads humbucker I had been using for a while. I'm going back to the more traditional tele configuration, but I wanted a neck pickup with more than what a standard tele neck pickup offered. It looks like the S-Telly will be a perfect fit! You owe it to yourself to call Don!
