Opeth is my fav metal band of all time..and I think their music is too good to be appreciated...if that makes any sense...

But this cover really brings out a side of opeth that I find in each of their songs...which is what i love:BEER

Not as chewy as Trowers, but still pretty cool... I was digging on it.

Although I don't know what the hell chewy means, I think I agree with you.

I don't know if I laughed harder at Chewy, or the placement of his hand:drool

That sucketh.

What's the point? It adds nothing, just a so-so rehash.

I think it's because they normally sound like this on most of their stuff, is the point:

I agree. Would be more fun to just whip out this version at a live show than to make a video and do a studio recording...even if they needed filler material.

It kinda' reminds me of the Korn remake of Behind Blue Eyes. I hated that cover, its emotional impact on me was like finally getting to visit a lifelong hero only to find out he'd had his balls cut off and was totally beaten by life. Freakin' horrible! Much to my chagrin some idiot at work (with blue eyes) played it over and over again because I think he liked to think it was about him. Ugggh! He got fired eventually. Not for that (but he should have). :D

thats right in some ways and wrong in others....the style they did it in...is something they do for their own songs as well(damnation)...so i dont see it as out of their style....

however if they had done a progressive death metal version...you know as well as i do...it would not have been 'good enough' either...

To be honest, I do think I would have liked it more with more prog DM elements.

Not sure how familiar you are with the original, but they even copped his fills and stuff. That's kinda' boring ultimately. As far as execution goes, it was a good cover, no doubt. But the tones they were getting weren't near as good as the original, yet they kept it to the format of the original without taking it to any new level or adding any new insights. For that it's just kinda meh!

Nice vid, good job!..what's there to complain about when it's a song this great, even a so-so cover ain't gonna be bad unless there was a Tuba in their somewhere.

I thought it was pretty cool, but I am also a big Opeth fan.

I don't own a single Robin Trower recording but I think I should. Whenever I am listening to XM and hear something "that good" that I walk across the room to find out who it is, it is Robin Trower.

You can't go wrong with the album named after this song. It's a desert island album, total classic.

I have heard this song a thousand times, mostly 30 years ago tho.

Different enough here to make this a great listen. Mostly subtle differences, but respectful of the original.

Trower's guitar in comparison is more chewy, but if this is Opeth's sound here, nice.

Never heard of Opeth. Maybe I should give them more listen.

I'm a huge fan of Opeth, but this cover didn't do it for me. I much prefer interpretations of songs as opposed to note perfect replicas. I liked what A Perfect Circle tried with Imagine, and even Coroner's hilarious take on I Want you (She's So Heavy). Akerfeldt's original material is fantastic but the bonus disc on Watershed was just average compared to their other extended releases (i.e Blackwater Park).

ya the fills were kinda irritating....esp when the original fills were robin's .... and altho dewar's voice is unbelievable...this is the first time after dewar that i have actually enjoyed bridge of sighs....
