I have a set of Glendale brass compensated saddles They replaced a set of Wilkinson that eventually had grooves worn in them. I'm noticing the ruts/grooves are already starting to form on the new set. What happens is a buzzing once the grooves wear deep enough. Is there a harder material than brass that will prevent this? I use 11's so maybe this would explain the brass wearing quickly.

brass can be a little soft sometimes ...
Glendale has saddles of different composition, including titanium, IIRC

RS Guitarworks also has different saddles, although I don't think they have titanium, which you'd expect to be the hardest.

Well for 10 bucks I just ordered the steel compensated tele saddles from RS Guitarworks. Maybe I'm wrong but steel is stronger than brass?? Anyway the titanium saddles are 100 bucks so I'll try these first and see how they work.......thanks for the tip!

Yes, steel is definitely harder than brass. But there are all different kinds of steel so it's hard to say whether your new saddles will last 2 years or 20. But they'll definitely outlive brass.

Brass is used because (a) it's heavy/dense and (b) easy to machine.

I'm glad I stumbled up this thread; there is a buzzing coming from my saddles on my tele. I had no idea what was causing it. I though something was loose. It seemed like it is really noticeable since I changed strings this past week. Hopefully my local guitar store can smooth out the saddles.
