I'm looking for a mid wattage head that can get a nice dirty blues tone with clarity and definition. I'd prefer a master volume, but it's not a neccesity. Single channel is fine.

Around $900 shipped, doesn't have reverb but maybe Nik can add it, or just buy a holy grail.

Check out a Goodsell - you'll need a Custom 33 to get your desired wattage, but you might be able to find a used head in your price range if you look hard enough.

get a ceriatone marshall clone and have Nik install a post phase inverter master volume.

Why not look into the Dr. Z Maz series. The JR and SR both have some real nice cleans and a great grit but the SR can get pretty loud quickly!

The 18 watt JR is NOT as quiet as some think.

They are also extremely pedal friendly as well!

The Maz series heads with reverb can be had used for some great prices!

+1. Took the words right out of my mouth. Plus, these are incredibly stout/well built amps.

Here are some recent Maz TGP threads and I also recommend checking out the Dr. Z forums!

The Dr.Z maz sr has been on the top of my list. I just have no place locally to play one. :(

Might get a deluxe reverb. Anyone have one (fender deluxe reverb or dr z) they want to get rid of in the Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama area?

Another +1 on the Maz 38 - I meant to include that with the Goodsell in my recommendations.

A Deluxe Reverb though? You realize that's only a 22-watt amp and it only comes in the form of a combo. Not that there aren't head cabs available (I know for a fact Mojo makes a standard one). I put a JBL in mine and it's about loud enough to hang with my Bassman (about loud enough - definitely not quite as loud though). It'd definitely get you there... so I'd definitely +1 that too, but it's not exactly what you state you're looking for in the OP. Otherwise that would have been my first, last, and only suggestion :)

I've got a nice Princeton Reverb head I'd sell you - 25W of beef with 6L6's (obviously it was modded for that extra power). Seriously, if you start looking down the Fender route, you should have no trouble finding something super sweet to play with.

Really two different animals, the Deluxe Reverb and Dr. Z.

I like them both, but the Deluxe Reverb is going to be smoother and more Fender like. For more grit, you'll need pedals with the Deluxe.

The Maz Jr and Sr will both have more grit.

Why not pick one up used, try it, and if you don't like it, flip it? I think you'll like it.

I was wanting to sell my head (Engl Screamer 50) and get something I could use for playing blues and also use it with an overdrive to play in my post - metal band(ish) (I'm not the rhythm guitar player). But I plan on just keeping my head for playing metal, and getting a deluxe reverb to play blues and a little bit of country.
