View Full Version : Two 6L6's in a four 6V6 amp?

Doing a bit of digging on this. Seems that 2 6L6s would have about the same heater draw as 4 6V6's. As long as the bias was set correctly I figure its a safe swap. Thoughts? Bob

Yeah, the impedance needs is about right also. The 6L6's should offer a bit more headroom.

Thanks. It seems like a good way to use some 6L6's I have lying around. Save me from buying a set of 6V6's for it. Bob

so what is it? If I ever get to it, my Hiwatt build will be plumbed for either 4x 6V6 or 2x EL-34/KT-77.

Its a Crate Stealth GT 50. Two EL34's would draw too much heater current for its questionable build quality. That aside the Stealth sounds like no other Crate made. Killer 80's metal tones. Ive got two of them. Ones got new 6V6's . The other has the original Sovtek black glass firecrakers in it. Figure I'll set it up for a pair of 6L6's now. Bob
