It'll probably worth giving Hogy a call first.

Best, Pete.

I would be inclined to go with Alan Phillips of Carol Ann amps.
Alan has serviced quite a few originals, and built a few Wreck type amps called for customers who owned real Trainwrecks but didn't want to haul them out on stage.
Hogy would also be a person who could give you some good advise.

Hogy is probably the best option but, I will say that the BEST amp tech around is Billy Zoom in Orange, CA. I've had him set up two of my amps and it was well worth it. I'm sure he could do a Wreck right.

Give my partner Bob Dettorre a call at DST Engineering. He has worked on a lot of Wrecks as well as clones. What a beautiful clip!!! So no one is guessing who that is? Only one player that came to my mind within the first 3 notes!!!

also nice clip...sounds like a express clone I built with pacific trannys a while back ..nice! What are the power tubes in the clip...el34 or 6v6 or neither?

If its a clone I'd ask for help at one of the forums dedicated to the clones.

That's not a broken amp. You might want to check the link. That is a clip of the KF Memorial Amp done by Glen Kuykendall last year. I should know...I'm looking at it!;)

Is a protege like a prototype? Also was 1 of the bands that you produce or film?

That's the clip I got from the seller. And since mine is the same harmonically. In feel. I've no reason to doubt that. I'm sending it to hogy.regardless it sounds exactly the same. I've never heard any other clone like it to question that.

I think you are in good hands with Hogy. Did you, or are you able to, contact the "protege"?

Unfortunately no. I attempted that before posting here. As is the amp is superlative. Exceeding my wizard metal

Why the mystery on the person who built it? If they are truly a protege of KF's then there's nothing to be coy about, if not then they aren't a protege but one of many cloners out there. Doesn't mean it's bad, but the facts are certainly getting muddled.

First you say it's a TW, then it's a clone with clips to ID it, then it's not that one but something that sounds like it ...
I would doubt that Hogy would want to be in the biz of fixing TW clones, but i should probably let him speak for himself.

That's the info I got on
I'm sending. It to hogy. The clip was emailed to.me prior to purchasing the amp so I bought it based on that not like I found clip on the internet. I'm not selling the amp I want to get it fixed. That's all. I'm very happy with it.

Well I think this serves as proof that people can build a TW amp just like the original. After all some were fooled by the clip thinking that it was the real thing.....Great clip, great amp, with great story behind it....

Alessandro apparently worked very closely with Ken and Dr. Z collaborated with him on the Air Brake and on a number of projects so I'd think they would be possibilities also?

Actually it seems. The seller. Didn't lie to me as it was a 59 paul if it was glenn.and.I stated it was a one of 3 built

It's not Glenn's amp. The clip is not his amp either. The only person working on 'wrecks with Ken as far as I know was Dave Funk for a short time.

Well, that clip is me playing the "Ken memorial amp" a while ago with my '59 Les Paul. I recorded the clip for the builders of the Ken amp and so did some other players in their studios. Other than that I wasn't part of the build process. Anyway, that amp hasn't changed hands and obviously isn't the same amp this thread is about at all. On a related note I didn't build either of the amps in question. I have my original Express, and two clones I built of it myself but have never sold clones to anyone.
Just a heads up for anyone wondering...

As is the one I have is really wonderful. Once I get it back ill try to make clips myself.a In a studio setting.albeit don't have a 59 les paul.

I can't speak for any of the other names in this thread but I have a hogy built, Ken Fischer owned Komet 80 here and all I can say is I could not see how one could go wrong with Hogy.
I will though give a dap to allynmey too as he has been around them often as well and his worK also looks equally clean and solid.

My hat is off to Hogy and Ken...this 80 is one of the most amazing amps I have had the pleasure to play..

I just came to say that that clip is absolutely nuts.

I've never seen or heard any Dumble clip that comes close to justifying a 50k price tag, but this Wreck right here has 50k tone. (that, plus half a mil for the Paul)

You might want to hear other clones..Whoever you get to work on your amp, if you have to ship it,pack it very well.

Thanks! I played on that improv clip and glad you dug it.I should mention though the amp in that clip isn't the same amp the starter of this thread bought. Actually an unnamed seller sold an amp (to this thread starter) with this clip that he apparently must have lifted from the web that IS of a totally different amp! Boy that wasn't right and if he said his amp "sounded like this" it's still questionable selling ethics in my book. FYI the actual amp in the clip has never changed hands period. That said glad you checked out the clip! Enjoy, GK

I agree, maybe its was just a mix of words. Since there isn't many clips out there of an express or Wreck amp.
Sometimes people ask what one of these amps sound like, and they might send links to clips you have made or someone else made. So they can have an idea.
Usually [i would think] a builder would will tell someone who made the clip, or where it came from, and what amp was used to make the clips.
NOT say this is YOUR amp..that would be misleading..
And as you,and i,and many of the other builders know, their are alot of factors that make the outcome of how these amps sound. Some may sound better or worse. Not only whats in the amp, caps, tubes, transformer etc.., but the guitar,speakers/cab and the player. Down to how the clip might be recorded..

Seems the OP like his amp,and how it sounds.,and just needs to have a problem fixed its having.

How do you know it was owned by KF? He owned two and the estate still owns them to my knowledge. I had at least five of them and KF voiced a lot of them for me. Does it have a name?
