Looking to put a new preamp in a homebrew 4xel84 amp. Really looking for a good tone stack without too much loss. Just a treble/bass would be good.

The ef86 pentode connection can't drive anything but a high impedance circuit, so you have to use 1M ohm pots in whatever you build. The two knob tone stacks associated with some Dr.Z amps are based on an obscure Traynor Bassmate or Guitarmate stack. I shoved one into a 2x 6V6 ampd and it works pretty well. ymmv

I've used the one knob variety similar to the 18 Watt trem channel, or tweed deluxe. Many swear by the staggered caps, like in a DC-30, so no Treble/Bass there.
