hooking up a speaker and not sure which tab/wire is ground

im hooking up a weber 12a125 to a 5e3 build of mine. obviously one tab on the speaker is red and one is just metal, and the speaker chords from the chassis are vintage cloth style white and black wires. I dont know which wire to connect where. woe is me.

I'd think white would be positive. With one speaker it shouldnt matter. Then there are those who might say which ever way sounds better is best-whether thats reversed or not. Bob

ok thanks, so is the red tab or the plain metal tab positive on the speaker?

Red tab is positive.

White is positive, black negative.

But like is said, if you have phase issues, such as when playing with others, just switch them. It won't hurt anything either way.
