and the results?..
I'm thinking of doing it, but want some thoughts and opinions from those who have tried/done it.

Yup I tried it. Got a Ceriatone 2204 with an extra PPIMV a while back. Didn't like the PPIMV at all. The standard post-PIMV sounded much better to my ears.

My 4104 (the 2x12 combo version) has a PPIMV, but a few other mods as well. The low gain input is now wired like the classic Marshall brilliant channel, but with the bright caps removed and the high gain is just an added boost in front of it, but with less gain than the original high gain set up. My new master volume is mounted where the old one was.
My gripe with that family of amps was that the low gain was way too low and the high gain was too much - the Goldilocks dilemma. With the preamp gains sorted out, the PPIMV works beautifully.

Done it to many amps and later undone it. Dont like it and does not respond the way we think it should. The standard master is the best way to go. And use 1 Meg Audio pots. 500k is too fast in the face. We want a gradual increase in response. Hell im starting to think that a 2 Meg audio pot would probably be an even much better turn to PI input ratio....
