OK, I just got a Kendrick head in the mail yesterday used. I must say this was packed very well. Anyway, I put the tubes in (power tubes seemed a little loose) and had a few minutes with it a bedroom levels. The overdrive was sweet but there was something that sounded off. I turned the head around this morning so I could see inside while I cranked it up. The sound (rattle? tubes?) was still there but I kept a playing.

Now here is the fun part, one of the power tubes maybe the other also lit up a bright blue color and then the sound died. The amp is still getting power but no sound. Could this be the rectifier tube? Should I replace RT and the power tubes? I could smell heat, I do not think anything burned.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Check to see if there's a HT fuse either internal or on the back panel. This fuse would cause the symptom of power on but no sound.

Blue glow doesn't necessarily mean anything. Read the Resources page on my website.

It could be a rectifier (or a lot of other things) but typically shorted rectifiers take out the main fuse. Any one of several preamp tubes could cause you to lose all sound.

Check all your connections, guitar, etc. Plug directly into the amp with no pedals for testing.

Thank for the advice. I just checked the fuse and that looked fine. In better light I noticed that one of the power tubes did not have a glow and looked blown. I know no one can know for sure but if I replace the power tubes do you I may just get lucky and that will be all it was?

Anything's possible, but typically an amp will still produce sound with one working power tube.

I'm sorry there is some sound but very little coming from the amp.
