Hey, that is guitars and amps.

Recording..... is different. :D

Have you used it, and if so, what does it sound like that's different?

It isn't out yet, but to harness a chip that is 10X more than the fastest PC/MAC processor sounds.... good to me!

A lot of whiz-bang stuff sounds crappy as hell. But I don't need to tell you that.

It isn't about processor speed.

Sounds a bit like the TC 6000's that we have at work, personally I never use them and stick to the lexicons.

I think the more you try and create real reverb the more artificial it starts to sound.

Give me and AMS RMX16 anyday!!!!:D 16 bits of heaven with alogorithyms worked out on a restaurant napkin by my old friend Mark Crabtree CEO of AMS Neve.

He designed the fly by wire for the Tornado jet when he was at lucas aerospace in the 70's but thought that using 16 bit chips for audio was a lot more fun.
The rest is history.

I dunno, processor speed limitation is responsible for a lot of less-than-stellar reverb.

If they get some kickass algos happening, they might have a monster on their hands.

I know recording is different... but it was an easy stab and I couldn't resist! Sorry!:D

I have to agree with Les on this one. There are a lot of reverbs out there that look great "on paper" but don't do much for me. But maybe this does have "kickass algos happening."

All I can say is that reading that PR I want to hear it.

That's all.

Must try....... before I pass judgement.

You guys (well, *some* of you guys) remind me of a Rush lyric.....

"Quick to anger, slow to understand...."

Let's hear it before we bash it. :D

The concept makes sense on paper, let's let the ear decide once it arrives early next year.

Jeez, Scott, who's angry? Who's bashing?

All I'm saying is that there are huge differences in sound from one verb to another, and ultimately what strikes you as a gorgeous reverb probably will have little to do with the specs. Is that bashing?

Flame fest deftly averted!

>>"Quick to anger, slow to understand...."

Of course!

But no one is bashing it. All I suggest is that one actually listens to it before buying into the hype.

And certainly, because I respectfully disagree with someone, that doesn't equate to anger of any sort.

No point in getting angry. Just opinions.

Okay, let's substitute "dismiss" for "bash".

Bad choice of words, sue me. :D

The point of my original post was - what a creative way to find 10X the current processing power to do more realistic reverbs.

Dat's all.

It got poo-poo'd by folks simply because of the power behind it.

I then pointed out that we need to hear it first.... nothing more.

Not flaming anyone. Honest. *You* (yea, you! whom feel bashed by me ;)) are not a basher, really!!!:D

You may already know about the UAD-1 DSP card, but the UAD-1 was once a very powerful video processor, redone for audio. The drivers and software has been out for three years now, quite a head start on the one you're talking about.

check it out at:

www.uaudio.com

There are a couple of nice reverbs available for the UAD-1, and some cool new plugins on the way.

There is also the TC Powercore, not based on a video card, but still the same concept:

www.tcelectronic.com

What this guy is talking about doing is very tricky, and it takes a while to get the drivers working correctly with all the different applications and plugin formats. I'm not trying to bash this card, but I know what it takes to get something like this working relatively bug free, and it aint easy.

I must disclose that I work for Universal Audio.

Cheers,

Dave

Hardcore UAD-1 user here; don't like the reverbs. Maybe Les was right.....

Cool. The reverbs are not the UAD-1's strong point, but I like 'em...

Being a newbie here, I'm not sure who Les is...what was his point?

Not just Les, but one thing in the thread is to caution others that more power doesn't always equal great reverbs.

Yes, that's very true. There is a good thread about this on the unofficial UAD-1 forum, I'm sure you know about that forum, but if not:

http://www.chrismilne.com/uadforums/viewtopic.php?t=545

I think it would be pretty cool if these guys could pull it off, since convolution reverbs sound so good but weigh so heavily on the processor.

Some of the coolest reverb I've heard recently were on the Kurzweil Rumour, the patches are straight from the KSP-8 and are lush and truly amazing. Apparently it's sister unit the Mangler is also sweet but I haven't heard it.

Besides that I'm a big fan of Samplitude's Room Simulator module, although CPU intense it is capable of very convincing reverb with tons of control over the tone.

I've heard good things about both of these, but haven't heard them with my own ears yet.
