I am working on a well known track of his called I remember Wes, with all its octave work it is definitely a nod in the direction of the great Wes Montgomery. I hear a fair amount of spiralling in some jazz guitarists lines and it kind of reminds me of lines a horn player would use , but in the track Im working on I found myself slapping my thighs and tapping both feet along with the underlying groove. Benson is just a monster for "playing in the pocket ", he takes staunch jazz lines and makes it an accessible listen to a girth of listeners well outside jazz circles.

Ive got a superb full tablature for "song for my father " and it too is a superb listen . I cant believe I never listened to George Benson before , do any of his fans here know of any fansites for the man where tabs, backers etc can be sourced there.

Ive seldom heard a player whose music excites me like George Bensons does and I simply must check out live footage and recordings of this player.

Benson is the Boss... Period. End of story....:) Exclamation point!!!
Plenty of great jazz players, around for sure... but man... none of them have that 'bounce" in their lines and that super sweet, thick tone...like George does.

Bryan,
If ya get chance listen to his Solo on 'The World is a Ghetto" from the album 'In Flight'.
His interplay with Harvey mason is laugh out loud good and his pocket is stunning.
Also a live album called 'Weekend in la' is an absolute must.
