Man, it is so nice to have a private place to go to play at any time. I used to have all of my gear in my den, which is open to the rest of the house. It was difficult to use when my kids are here and if I did have the opportunity to play, I always had to check that the doors and windows were closed. Recently, the guy who owns the studio where we rehearse mentioned that he was closing his second location, a lesson studio. Inside there were 4 isolation booths, and he wanted to sell two of them. He had one set up at the rehearsal studio so I checked it out. Really nice isolated booth, measuring 6'x8'. They're made by Seulx Acoustics http://www.seulxacoustics.com/ So I bought a 6'x8' and an 8'x8' and put them together in my garage for an 8'x14' space. Put in carpet and padding, a couch and a widescreen TV as well. Now all of my gear is in one place and I can play to my heart's content. Now all I need to do is get set up to record. My next move is to upgrade a computer I have, buy an interface and a pair of monitors. I"ll post some pics later.....Steve

I find that to be the kiss of death. having a TV in your music room is just temptation/distraction from not making music. Your music room should be about playing, practicing, creating and enjoying MUSIC.

I'm not concerned, especially considering that it's not even hooked up.....I don't have a receiver out there, so the thought was to have it to watch the occasional movie. Not sure if I'll ever get satellite service out there. Also, I"m not a big tv watcher. Truth be told, I've had this tv sitting in a box in my garage for 3 years. I'm not even sure that it still works, but that's another story!

I disagree. I designed mine with a Home theatre in mind. Its a Place I go to relax and unwind as well as make music. I spent every Sunday in there watching the Dolphins and I was able to noodle and play as well. If I watched the game in the Living room I wouldn't have had my gear . Your Music room should be a comfortable place to go . If you have to shut out the world in order to make music you got problems. :dunno

I'm such a moron, of course you're right. I mean who's ever heard of an author or songwriter needing to have peace and no distractions in order to write? Jeesh, what was I thinking?

Relax........your taking it all wrong. Just becuase a TV is in the room does that mean you need to turn it on? There are times when you may want it for say an instructional Video or something.

I think if the guy wants a TV in his music room, then he should get a TV. If he feels he wants to be alone with his music, then he shouldn't. I don't think I should necessarily be telling him which he should do - I'm sure he's a big boy and can make that decision all on his ownsome.
I'm looking forward to seeing the photos.

Congrats. I hope you got a good deal on the used booths. I see the direct price for an 8'x8' booth is over $12,000. both booths you got would be about $20,000 together. Let us know how sound proof it is, and how the ventilation is. I've looked at those before, but they were cost prohibitive for me, and I wondered how stuffy and hot they would be. Finding used ones was fortunate.

I'm perfectly relaxed and I don't think I took it wrong at all.

What part of you saying I had problems didn't I understand? I replied, sarcastically, that the number of writers (Authors and Songwriters) who view a quiet, private and peaceful place without distractions as asset to creating, as pretty common thing. They all have problems?

This is the guys first spot and I was lending my opinion about what I've found to be detrimental. Sorry.:rotflmao

Hey guys.....chill out:RoCkIn
It's all good! This is a nice relaxing area for me. If I hadn't had this "spare" tv set sitting around, I don't think that I would have even bothered....but I did and so I did. No big thing. No sense getting worked up over a personal choice.....just my opinion....
And regarding the cost, I was amazed at what these booths run on a retail basis. No way could I have afforded a 2'x2' booth, much less what I ended up with. I got the two booths for a grand....my sweet deal of the year! As far as really sound proof, there are lots of cracks and small openings in it, mainly because my garage floor is not really all that level. But my kids say it's like having a radio on somewhere to them when I'm playing. Ventilation is really good. There's an opening where I can connect a 4" duct if I want to for heat and air. But so far, it's been okay, even with the cold temps we had for a while. Nice thing is that if I ever move, I can just take it apart and take it with me.

I think you should whatever you want in your room, it's your room. All I was saying was I don't have things in my recording/music room that will distract ME. But then again I have an entire house dedicated to music and the living room/lounge has a TV and stuff. You wanna have a clubhouse encapsulated in one room, I can dig that!
It's awesome being able to just get into a place with all of the stuff you like!

That's a nasty good deal! I have a garage I'd like to set up as a music room, but as of now, I have a music room that partially opens to my large living room. With multimedia, surround sound and it mixes well with my music room when I want to jam with whatever, it can't be beat. And then it opens in both rooms to the deck for the outside, tiki torch bonanza.
Whatever anyone does with their music that make them happy is all a good thing.
