View Full Version : Donnerbox Spacial Delay: Who makes it and who is Donner?

I've had a Donnerbox Spatial Delay for a few years now and I've been confused the whole time... who made it and who is Donner? I thought some guy named Donner made it but now it looks like all he does is PAINT pedals. Since Donnerbox.com doesn't exist, I am in the dark. Is the Spatial Delay a BJF pedal? I get a little noise from mine from time to time, a pitched oscilation based on if the pedal is set for long or short delay. Can anyone tell me about the pedal and what I can do about the noise?

Best,
Randy

I don't really know about the Spacial Delay, sorry, but Donner does in fact do a lot more than just paint stuff. He's kind of shifted gears lately though, check up on his newer gig here:

ok... so what did he do when my pedal was made (circa 2005)? did he make my pedal?

I think the story is something like Donner hooked up with some builder to "design" a couple pedals and said builder built them (duh) and Donner painted them... or something like that.

umm i would contact donner himself about anything with GKS i've heard they have a really shady track record and could be a scam alltogether

pretty sure he never got those pedals he order from Good Karma Studio AKA EFX/RFX & that the Spacial was made by someone else.

Randy,

Can you post some pictures (inside & outside)? Maybe there's something that helps to solve this :)

Does it look like this:

http://www.4mspedals.com/other/test_production_spatial96.jpg

From the Website 4ms Pedals:

"Spatial Delay in production! Thu, Feb 8, 2007

We're building batches of a delay based on the PT2399 chip for Donnerbox (http://www.donnerbox.com/). These will be sold through Donnerbox, not as 4ms Pedals. There's two variations: an LFO modulated version, and a stompable dual Time/Echo-level version."

I vaguely remember them being offered but no details.

I would PM DonneR and Puckboy99

DonneR for the obvious reasons and Puckboy99 has one listed in his sig

Ah the Spatial Delay :)

Yeah I came up with the concept/look/design for a line of Donnerbox pedals and found someone to do the 'insides' while I did the 'outsides' ...

at the time BJF was mostly drives and the Mad Professor line was just a distant twinkle in the eye... so I thought to make a delay and a couple modulations.... The Spatial delay at the time was one of the first to use the PT chip that is everywhere now

the first / Four knob version was indeed made by Bad Karma Studio ...

then I had another idea and went to the guys I wanted to first (and should have) 4ms - fellow St. Louisans - there are 2 versions of the 6 knobber - one has two times and the other has stompable modulation...

the delay feild was starting to get crowded so after the first batch of about a dozen I let it go .....

I have thought about having some more done for the Full Moon Pedals and Amps line and still may as that gets going again ...... in fact the Spatial paintjob is the inspiration for the Full Moon 'Nightsky' look

I would never do business with Him again....

But yes those are real pedals and I still have about 3 of the Phybes if anyone reeeally wants one - its basically the old BYOC Phase Royale reworked a bit..... phase 90/45/vibe switches

"reeeally", does that mean it's very expensive? ;)

i have a 4 knob. are these pedals well-though-of? i like mine well-enough. it's is intermittantly noisy, but it sounds pretty good.

i've got two of the 6 knobbers :D maybe they'll be collectable someday... gotta say, they're both pretty fantastic! the modulation one hasn't gotten much use yet as its pretty new, but the two time delay one has been a staple on my baord since i got it.

Yeah its a good solid delay with two times , all those delays hiss at higher delay levels.....

Yeah those are real quality pieces - they were too expensive to have made is why I stopped , quality is there tho...
I reeeeally like the tone control on those - I dont understand why anyone would have a delay without one :)

It's not a hiss, it's a quiet siren-like squeal, like a radio frequency.

hmmm sometimes that can be from an underpowered supply - what power supply are you using ?? .....

do you have another power supply to try ?

randy morser

I use a PP2 (not plus)

I don't have another supply. I guess it runs best on 9v?

DonneR
01-21-2009, 09:49 AM
hmmm yeah 9v, dont know if the polarity switches would matter...
have you tried isolating the effect (only playing t hru it) ??

I'll try that tomorrow or the day after and post again.

Since no one jumped on it can I say that Donner is the family that got stranded in the cold and ran out of food, etc. etc.? I always chuckle at a restaurant when someone puts their name in as Donner and the announcement comes over the PA "Donner party of four, your table is ready." But in all seriousness please continue and I apologize.

Expense or not, those pedals are great. anyone with a decent ear should hear that...

Why not make a few more run of the spatial delays (dual time & LFO modulation) I would like to get my hands a couple...But i cant find one anywere...:dunno thats my luck...

Thanks,

Yeah they are really fat sounding, I enjoy them.... might be room for a deeluxe model that would do both times and modulation in a bigger box .... that would be tasty Im thinkin' ;)

I contacted 4ms pedals just the other day, and they told me they had a few boards left over from the original spatial run. I was talking with them about purchasing one. Then, I was going to try and contact you about a paintjob, making it special donnerbox spatial delay, with a killer donnerbox paintjob.

But, if your thinking of contacting 4ms about building a deluxe two time/ modulation model, then i might hold off on the purchase and wait for the deluxe.

if the build takes place, i'd like to be the first on the list.

Thanks,

K
