I'm a bit curious about the box of rock,

in your opinion is it low, medium or higher gain? I've only heard it through the Zvex marshall demo and it sounded a bit high gain to me. But i would love another low gain flavor.

Also, is the boost side 100% a SHO? or is it just similar, because i do love the SHO (don't have one) and would like to use one as an always on.

Thanks

It can do lower gain as well, I really like it with the gain set around half and then boost it with a clean boost or a Rangemaster style boost for higher gain sounds. The boost is similar to an SHO but not exactally the same...the SHO has a clarity increase that the boost on the BoR doesn't have. It really is a great pedal.

I have the Vexter version. I would say that it is a med/high-gain. The boost is the bee's knees, well atleast for me it is.

Like wingwalker said above, it can do low-gain pretty good too.

I'd call it medium gain, it doesn't get way over the top but is very crunchy at full drive. I love mine, it will clean up really well if you roll your guitar's volume down. The boost is not as bright and sparkly as the SHO but is based off of it.

Medium drive, the boost is a slightly re-voiced SHO so to be not as bright(I think most of that comes from the insanely high input impedance the SHO has.)

agree on medium gain and similar to SHO though not the same circuit.

The boost is great though and the chord definition is awesome. Really like the BOR way more than the BOM or FF. Though they of course do different things.

i was only using the boost side, so i sold it and bought a superduper.

Two things, first, there is a difference in sound between the Vexter version and the hand-painted version. Not that one is better but, just Some will say that they are the same and mostly they are but, the hand-painted version seems a bit beefier sounding and less tinny. I would say though that the pedal itself is a low/medium gain effect with a GREAT boost section. I got rid of my HP version for a Timmy and I do long for the BOR at times however, for now, the Timmy stays. Great pedals both of them.

I thought that the pedal had a great sweep from moderate, lo-fi type gain (when run through a 2x6v6 amp) through vintage type higher gain. Nothing modern or buzzy.

i thought the only difference was the box painting? is one hand-wired and one assembly line?

Nope, they're all handwired. The Vexters are manufactured in Taiwan.

I have the vexter, Id say its low to medium gain. Sounds very good. Needs a tad more output though.

What are you trying to do make your ears bleed? Seems like mine has more output than I'll ever need.

Low to medium, compared to, say, the OCD (medium to high).
