View Full Version : RSA 31 Question

On my RSA 31, on the click channel, I can find no tonal difference between the 3 most "bassy" clicks. There's 6 click stops, and if you think of click 6 as Most Bassy, on my amp, clicks 4, 5, and 6 sound exactly the same. Anyone else notice this on their own RSA? I phoned Fred about it, and he said, "Turn the amp way down, and switch between them; if you still can't hear a difference, call me." Two weeks later, after listening several different times, I called him back. He said, "I have a special cap on there that's volume sensitive; on the final two clicks, you won't hear a difference unless you're turned way up." That remark seemed to contradict his earlier advice to listen at a quiet volume. I'm not overly obsessed about it, because I find that clicks 3 and 4 cover all my needs, but I can't help but wonder if something is fundamentally amiss with an amp that I paid a lot of money for. Does my experience ring a bell with any other 31 owners? THANKS in advance!

I used mine for a session today. I don't think there's a huge amount of different between the click intervals, but I can hear some difference (mostly in the bass response). It's pretty subtle to me.

I hear less difference between clicks with my RSA31 than i do with 23 or 37, but for me, of my 3 amps the RSA 31 has the nicest click channel. I do find it is dependent on amp volume, but I would not expect them to be as close as you describe.
It might be worth calling Fred again, or just getting the values checked by local tech.. I wouldn't expect the amp to have an issue though.
Killer amp though, I changed the Tesla JJ's that my amp came with to some other 84's and it is just fantastic.
