So I'd like to solicit experienced opinions on the best bang-for-the-buck video camera for recording bands (potentially pretty loud) indoors (in potential low light), with a firewire out.

Anybody have experience with this sort of thing?

Let 'er Rip!

Do a search, this topic has come up many times before.

I shoot and direct music for a living and when I do small shows I use the
Canon HV20. Best bang for the buck at under $500.
$429.99 at Newegg.com. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120277)
HD/SD, records to miniDV tape, firewire and HDMI output, accepts external audio sources, etc...great camera for an amateur or pro.

BTW - If it's really loud then you might want to think about getting a line into the camera from the soundboard because even the best consumer/prosumer cameras don't have built-in mic that can handle high SPL w/o distortion.

Thanks!

I did a quick search and didn't come up with exactly what I was looking for, so thanks for the tip.

Any others?

Hello,
Would that Canon work for sit down instructional videos?

Thanks,
Steve

of course, any camera would, no matter what you buy I'd get a tripod as well to mount it on
so your master shot is steady.

Ho-Ho-HOGAN!

Miss ya Brother. Send me an email with your address so I can send you some of the new throw-downs with Sonny Landreth, etc.

You gonna be at the main campus this summer?
I could use a good ass-kicking!

jammybastard - I looked into that link you posted, but it seems to have USB, not firewire and doesn't appear to have an aux in. What am I missing?
