Hello folks,

I have a question about the string tree on my '77 tele. I've been having tuning issues with the high-e and b string, where I bring the b into tune and then the high-e is a little off, so I bring that into tune and then the b is off, repeat repeat repeat. My guess is that it's something with the string tree that they share... Is this a good guess? Anything to try, or should I get a different one, or...?

I've had the issue for a while, but my ST-200 tuner is making it more apparent (gads I love that thing!).

Thanks! :)

Lubricate the string trees and nut slots with something ( graphite, nut sauce, chapstick, etc ) and see if that helps. Sometimes the string tree needs to be smoothed up and polished at the contact surface also.

Sounds good, I'll give it a shot.

If it's loose the tree can rock back and forth as you tune one string, which pulls the other string out of tune.

Rosewood's right - most tuning problems are solved at the nut, but it's worth checking the hold down screw too.

Thanks, Dana O.
