i recently swapped out a new Lead 80 for a worn in V30. sounds way better, but i know i really didnt give the Lead 80 a chance. how do you compare these after brake in time?

CL80 is more balanced with a bigger bottom, a little bit more highs, and less of a mid spike than the V30. CL80's don't break up as early, and can handle more power (80 watts vs. 60 watts). Also a tad less efficient (i.e. loud) than a V30.

Lately I've been playing through a CL80-loaded cab a lot more, as I have gotten a little "tired" with V30's. Don't get me wrong, V30's are great for what they do, but they seem to color the sound a little too much IMO and that midrange spike is always there. V30's are easier to play for me, but I like the tones I hear with the CL80 more when I have to work for them. Kind of like a Strat/Les Paul comparison; the Strat tones are more rewarding, but you have to work harder for them.

V30's and CL80's actually mix nicely together, something to consider if you have a multi speaker combo or cab.

As said before V30s have an upper mid spike, add their own signature hair to the sound. Cl80's are more neutral, some would even say bland and are a cleaner speaker. I like both, but of the 2 I prefer the CL80's most of the time.

i thought the mesa tweaked CL80 was nicer sounding

for me the CL80 got lost in the mix very easy. the V30 has the thick mid sound that cuts through when i need it. also the CL80 was alot brighter but some of that is because its got broke in.

I actually like a CL80 in Fender Blackface style amps. I have the warehouse speakers version and it sounds really nice in my Sewell Texaverb. I've never really enjoyed the V30s I've tried, with the exception of one in a Bogner cube that sounded great.

V30s really do rock those cl80...........
Character versus no Character...........I'm sorry but those cl80s sound mushy and zingy compared to the v30s.

The worst are the g1265s ..... they are real bad..........for me i'm saying........ and I'm sure millions of other right minded folk...he he
It seems I just don't like the big dust cap cele speakers.....
