any Collings mando players here? I've had this mando about a year or so and i have to say i just grow to love it more as time moves on. It has a varnish finish and Waverly keys - thanks for giving it a listen and look!

I have an MT that I got several months ago. It is a great instrument and has really pushed my mandolin playing forward.

I have a very early MF5. It is a really nice instrument. I believe the serial number is 77

MT2V -- varnish blonde, birds eye back and sides, Adirondack top, Waverlies with ebony buttons, Dudenbostel arm rest. One of the finest A styles ever!

dale,
it's a beautiful guitar for sure. Played her last night. I really have to get the new strings on it, though, because I can't play her as is. I'd like to try a set of 10s before I go down to 9s. I use 9s on my teles, but on a Gibby-like guitar, I'd like to try 10s. Time will tell :)
texasdave,
Trading the I35? I don't know about that just yet :D But if that Trussart and the Swart amp were in the mix, who knows :D

Dale,
Wow, I think you are the number 1 Collings supporter in the country! I have been toying with the idea of buying an MF-5 Deluxe but since I am new to the mando, it is hard to part with the bucks. In the end I know I will buy one, they are just to sweet. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the info. And yes, smidge is indeed a technical term - especially if you say a "metric smidge", or so I heard :D

I don't own one, but I have played many and suggest them to my Berklee students all the time- the A models are the best bang for the buck going IMHO.

trwigg - great to hear about your interest......man they are expensive to be so SMALL!! All the best with your mando playing!
mojocaster -have you run the new beauty through the Doc Z and Tweed yet??......wonder if you have a preference.....i'm certain they are both NICE!
Mandoboy - great to hear you are affiliated with Berklee....thanks for all the great instruction being offered.....i agree the A's are just as toneful if you don't need a scroll and they hold the same amount of sand!!
best,
dale

MF-5 Deluxe varnish here. My one and only "forever" mando.
Collings had a prototype of a new model at the NAMM show earlier this month. F-4 Style, OVAL HOLE, honey amber blonde, varnish, tortoise bound. Quite lovely.
I think it went to Buffalo Bros.

Note the small "skull" near the base of the headstock inlay. This was a special request. At the time, their inlay designer was also an Austin tattoo artist.
