I need a new firewire interface. I've been using a PreSonus Firebox for awhile now. I love it, but I need more inputs. I'm rather sick of having to premix the drum mics. Obviously, I'd rather just do that in my DAW.

I figure this guy would be a good bet, considering how I love my firebox:

Just wondering if there are any other good options out there for a similar price range?

That is a good unit. I used 2 of them daisy-chained for a while and got good results. IMHO it is the best sounding of the Presonus interfaces and its drivers are much more solid than those in the FireStudio line.

The XMAX pres are also very good compared to many.

There is the new Firetube, with 16 inputs (two with compression and tube "flavoring"), 8 mic pres (so you can use higher quality mic pres for the other 8 inputs). Might be interesting... The Tascam 1641 also gives you 16 inputs. The Focusrite Saffire is $500 for 8 preamps and ADAT 16 channel in/out. BTW, can anyone comment on the quality of convertors between the Presonus, Tascam and Focusrite since they're all in the same ballpark money-wise?
