Les Paul Standard with Seymour Duncan '59 Humbuckers- Push/Pull Coil Split
There is no discernable difference when the coils are in unison or split if fuzz is engaged, while the clean signal does display the desired chances...
How can I achieve the tonal variation that I intend when using fuzz?

I hear pretty much the same thing with a Lollar Imperial when I have a Skreddy Mayo on. There isn't much difference either between neck, neck/bridge and just bridge pup. Seems like the fuzz pretty much takes over everything. In the case of the Mayo, that's not a bad thing at all.

with a tube distortion and I believe with solid state od and distortion pedals the tone changes with volume, so adjusting the volume knob should give you a tone change, the pups really don't affect the tone, they just drive the distortion device into distortion.
I have split coils and they don't change the tone of the distortion other than the volume level, and I use the humbucker to keep the noise out.
I set my amps so I can go clean to heavy distortion with the volume knob, not sure if your fuzz will do that.

I generally use a Sola Sound reissue that cleans up very well; I'd just like to be able to split the coils and have a distinctly cutting tone result
