View Full Version : Tightening a tele input jack

I've never worked on my tele before but I noticed last night that the input jack wiggled a little with a cable plugged in. On all my other guitars the input jack has screws right there to remove the jack and tighten it. This is not so on the tele. Do I have to take the entire chrome section off that includes the knobs and such or how do I get to the jack?
Thanks,
Gregg

If it is the jack connection themselves and you have to bend them to tighten then you have to remove the control plate and also remove thenut on the outside of the jack.
It's really easy but make sure yo place everything back into the control cavity as sometimes the direction things take in the wiring might make a tight fit in there.

If it happens again you could always get one of these that never loosen up:

If it is the vintage type jack cup they are a poor design and will always come loose.
Unless you are talking about just the jack nut coming loose.
Then it's just a matter of taking the control plate off and reaching in and holding the jack with something so you can tighten the nut.
I install Electrosokets on all my teles. Much better design and stays put.

I've never had to remove anything to tighten up Strat or Tele jacks, but maybe I've been lucky. I just use the right size socket wrench. I have found that a cable can be hard to insert if you tighten a Tele jack too much.

I just use the right size socket wrench.
:agree Don't people have regular tools in the house anymore?
