I just saw that too. Ed's voice doesn't sound too good. But he looks okay at least.

I like that Eddie Van Halen.
He's a funny guy.

I know he's missing a third of his tongue, but he sounds drunk to me. And the dude is smoking again.

He's got that "drunk aggression".... he lunges forward with his head punctuating his sentences. If you've ever lived with an alcoholic - this little video, so seemingly simple and innocuous, will make you cry.

Who gives a crap about another new EVH piece of gear. We've got tons of top notch everywhere we look. Record some new music already with Dave and the gang!

It's good to see him doing some press hype for the guitar with the mainstream press. It's the most accessible he's been in years and I hope there's more to come.

Ed's hitting the weights pretty hard, isn't he? I'm glad he's still around.

Interest in gear on THE GEAR PAGE strikes you as out of place?

Go ED!! Happy belated birthday. Since it would be impossible to make all of the faceless internet forumites happy you may as well try to make yourself happy! Let's get a new record!

He doesn't look drunk to me and I've been around a lot of alcoholics. But what's with the smoke? You can really tell he's got a 'smokers voice'. Time to kick the habit!

Cool interview. There is something very likeable about the guy-I can't believe he still smokes after the tongue cancer. I think he is becoming the elder statesman that we were not sure he would become a few years ago. Good for him!

Maybe not. Looks to me like he does that because he seems to not hear very well. (imange that!) I've seen hearing impaired people do that, even when they are talking.
I'm glad to see him doing stuff with guitars. Thanks for the link.

Ed is cool ... he is his own worst enemy though ... cancer of the tongue from smoking, and there he goes again ... but I enjoy hearing him hawk his stuff.

According to Ed, sucking on nickel picks caused his cancer...

Whatever caused it, I was amazed to hear that he had lost one third of his tongue.
If it was smoking.........my sister who did eventually quit was oblivious to family pleas, literature etc.
She said she knew the facts, (she knew we were bugging her from concern).
as I'm sure EVH does.
She said nicotine addiction is what it is, an addiction.
Logic and reason don't always dictate our behaviour.
e.g. Keith Richards and Ronnie Woods etc.
My prayer is that anyone with any addiction
is given understanding.
If they choose to do something...given support.
All the best and thanks Lava Man for an interesting interview.
STILL LOVING your cables and service. Best move I ever made.:AOK

Had no idea Al was a minister?!?!
I'm glad Ed's still around.
I'm glad for what he's done for the guitar playing world and for everyone he inspired in the 70's & 80's. I just hope he kicks his nasty habits for good.

holy crap, do volume pots really seize up? never had that problem in 30 plus years of playing.
sugarlou
02-01-2009, 11:14 AM
If you do that non stop volume swell thing like Cathedral with the delays the pot can actually heat up and stop working...but c'mon now Ed is that really an issue??
Oh thank you Lord the new EVH guitar has finally figured out the answer to my failing potentiometer issues....

Cool interview, thanks. Ed's the man and he seems to be having fun and in good spirits. Drunk? try talking while holding the end of your tongue, he's lucid as can be.
Go Ed.

Thanks for the post because it's always good to hear from Ed as far as I'm concerned. He's the sole reason I started playing in the first place and I'm glad he's still at it all these years later. I don't care what he say's or how much he drinks or smokes(but I wish he didn't do either), Eddie Van Halen will always be the top 'guitar hero' in my life. :bow
