Is it safe to do this?

Sounds like a really stupid question, but it's what I have available at the moment as opposed to lugging around my 4x12 cab. I am just worried about overloading the speaker. The speaker is a 1x10 Polytone Brute extension cab.

:dunno

To quote Dirty Harry: "Do you feel lucky punk?" Not rocket science.. if you turn it up too much, you will blow the speaker.

Don't forget that 50 watts is still in the "clean" area of an amp.

If the amp has a master volume keep it below about 4 and you should be relatively safe. If not you won't be able to crank up to a distorted tone without blowing the speaker.

See what the speakers inside your 4x12 are rated at, if they are 100W speakers, then perhaps take one out and put it in the extension cab.. instead of the 50W.

But no.. I wouldn't try running a 100W amp into a 50 cab... not unless your looking for a smoke machine, also you could do damage to the amp.. :worried

Use a bit of common sense. Ive run lots of high powered amps into lower powered speakers without issue. For practice/lower volumes its not an issue. If your intent is to keep up with a loud gigging level I wouldnt bother. You will probably end up blowing out the speaker. I wouldnt be concerned so much with blowing the speaker but if it fails and the amp's OT gets a flyback voltage spike thats a real concern IMO. Bob

Why not just soak the 10" speaker with lighter fluid and light in on fire.
