Anyone ever use the ground switch on the back of an old blackface or silverface amp as a transformer output tap selector with a replacement multi-tap output transformer?

Is the location of the switch a food one for routing output wires between the output transformer and the speaker jacks??

I've seen it done. It does run close to the AC power stuff and over the rectifier tube if there is one. Haven't seen problems in the ones that had it.

Be sure to label it with the appropriate impedances. And write them upside down. You'll understand why when your using it.

There are 2 varieties; earlier amps have an on-on w/ 3 terminals that should work fine for selecting 2 impedences; later amps have a on-off-on switch that I don't believe will work (I don't recall there being a terminal for the "off" position). If there is a terminal for the "off" position it will work fine for selecting 3 impedences.

the chassis I might do this to is a silverface. The ground switch has only two terminals.. I'm getting a new a/b switch, that ought to do the trick.

Thanks!

I did the mod..it works great..no problems! I had to get rid of the clutter of wire that was there for the (long removed) ground ("death") cap.
