In general, how much difference in clean headroom does a tube rectifier vs solid-state rectifier make? i'm looking to buy a tophat club royale and i know some of these models have tube rectifiers and some have SS rectifiers. i know an SS rectifier will make the amp's response tighter, but does it increase clean headroom? Or, does it just depend on the specific circuit?
i currently have a 6L6-based Tophat Super Club Deluxe with a SS rectifier that I really like. But, I miss the "squish" of tube rectifiers and EL84's so I want to pick up a Club Royale too.... Will I be sacrificing a lot of clean headroom switching to a tube rectifier?
thanks-
